Default Scared

Hi everyone,

Alright so this is my second time around doing Atkins, and I wont lie - I don't have a lot to lose. I'm looking to lose maybe 30lbs, but I am 5 days into induction nonetheless, and am definitely in ketosis (I can taste it). I'm so worried that with all the necessary planning, I just wont be able to keep this up. I just need to reassurance, to know that it is possible, and that it is do-able, basically.

My cravings have been better....I am just feeling discouraged.

Please tell me this taste in my mouth will go away hahaha.

I'm hoping that once I get to maintenance phase, I can get to 30 carb 30 protein 40 fat - I know everyone is different, but I"m hoping this is reasonable.

Question: In maintenance, we are not still ai ming to keep our bodies in ketosis, are we??

Any help is appreciated....

much love xoxo!

Hey Jakey,

It is my understanding that you only remain in keytosis during the 14-day induction period if you stick to the plan and eat accordingly. After the 14-days you are allowed to re-introduce select foods that are not legal during induction - so my take is at that point you are no longer in keytosis.

That my friend is the limited knowledge I possess regarding keytosis. Board - please spank my KATOOSH if I am wrong as it is so not my intent to provide bad information! :}

Peace Out,
TTT

While you are losing and on OWL you may stay in ketosis, or you may not. different people can be in ketosis at different levels, as long as you are still losing weight it doesn't really matter actually...

When you get to maintenance no you will not be in ketotis anymore.

I worried about the planning also because I am just not home very often, with 3 kids I run every nite and it is very easy to just grab things to eat and trust me anything you can just grab to eat isn't on this diet. I started eating later. You're never that hungry on this diet so its easier to wait until I get home and actually have the time to make something worth eating. I didn't eat until 9:30 last nite. One thing that is easy is if you make enough for a few days. Sometimes I'll make a large bowl of chicken salad and its there for a couple days or a big salad that I just have to add some chicken or turkey too. You'll find new ideas here to so watch for them. Good Luck!

thanks everyone for your comments, i appreciate it. and you know what, you are SO right when you say: "You're never that hungry on this diet so its easier to wait until I get home and actually have the time to make something worth eating." on a low fat diet, i CANT do that i need the food NOW. you're right, i'm not hungry NEARLY as often and when i am, its not like i feel light headed or anything...i just feel a little hungry. i CAN wait till i get home because the cravings are almost nonexistent.

thank you!!

Planning is key with Atkins. If you plan ahead you'll be fine. Diamonds said it right... if you prepare more than you need for one meal, it makes it easier to "just grab a bite".

You really do get into the habit of preparing foods pretty quickly.

Ketosis is important early on, as Jen said, but the MOST IMPORTANT thing IMO is to work your way through the 4 phases ... increasing your carbs until you discover your maintenance level (where you neither gain nor lose) ...

I think for alot of people the fear of gaining keeps them from going through the rungs/phases so they never really learn how to do this woe for life.

Atkins is a great way to the LOSE the weight; but the real goal is KEEPING IT OFF and learning how to eat healthy FOR LIFE.
