Arrow Recovering Bulimic, New to Atkins

Hello everyone. My name is Darren and I am really new to the Atkins plan. Recently I have been trying to recover from my bulimia and it is one of the hardest things I have had to do. I know I am not FAT at all but I do want to get down to my old weight where I was happiest. I am 146 pounds now and that is from bingeing so I am sure if I follow this WOL I could get down to 130 pounds in like 6 months or so. I am sick of being uncomfortable in my own skin. Okay...i hope u are gonna help me in my journey. I am all alone on this because my family disapproves of everything that I do and I know it's alot for a stranger to ask but I really need the support.

Well I want to let you know that I am here for you. sometimes family can put you down faster than people who are not your family. I know what its like to be uncomfortable in your own skin, but you have to learn to love yourself. If your trying to lose weight, do it to be healthy, dont do it to satisfy others. Remember you are beautiful both inside and out, nomatter how your appearance may be. I will keep you in my prayers.

Darren-

From one person with an ED to another - please, listen to me. I'm 32 years old and have been fighting this issue for well over half my life.

This is not something you are going to conquer on your own. Bullemia is more than just binging/purging - it's a big psychological/self esteem issue - and it's going to cause your body and health more damage than you can imagine if you don't get some help. Real help.

There will be times that you will feel like you've got it under control - and oh man- those times feel incredible, don't they?! You're not binging, you're not purging and you feel like you've got it on lock - and then you pass by a mirror, or some mean bastard says something horrible to you that shakes your self perception, or some event in your life spirals out of control and the next thing you know.........you're dealing with it again.

I understand. I get it. I know.

Family can be a real stressor on top of everything else, but know this : They love you. I know it feels like the whole family is working against you - especially when you're 15 - but they love you and have a vested interest in your health and wellbeing. If you don't feel like you can talk to them about this issue, talk to your highschool counselor. They can direct you towards the help you need and they can help you talk to your family.

I know me saying that just had you shaking your head - either in fear of them knowing what's going on or because you think that they won't get it. Here's what they really won't get: They won't get why you're in the ER because of ulcers/abdominal-esophogial bleeding. They won't get why your dentist bills are astronomical and why your teeth look like **** or are rotting out of your head. They won't get why you pace after eating or avoid mirrors or are just generally depressed. Those are things they won't get unless you let them in to your life and acknowledge that you're only human - and a young man. You're not supposed to have all the answers or know everything - and the adults aren't either, but they can certainly help you find them and help yourself. You're not alone, and it's not weak to acknowledge that there's a problem and that you need some help to deal with it. It takes strength and character to step up and say these things. It's the cowards that hide. - It's harsh, but it's the truth.

I know that a solid eating plan helps keep me in check and makes me feel much more in control. You have my full and undying support.

I'm here. I get it. I've been (and am) where you are, and I too am working on it every day. You're not alone here, Darren. And if you need anything - please - don't hesitate to holler. But please please please please, talk to someone in your life and get help because this really is something that will follow you for years to come.

Hugs and mucho respect for stepping up thus far!
~Brook
