Exclamation Help!!!!!

I need help, bad!

I'm doing the atkins diet, embracing the atkins life, loving every minute of it and I feel awsome too! But i've got a real problem

Others

I'm going to New York in 12 hours and all my friends coming with me see this as an opputurnity to get me off this "stupid thing"

they seem to think it's just a fase and that i'm gonna give up real soon

It dosen't mather HOW MANY times I explain it's my choice, it's not a phase, it's not unhealthy, it's not dangerous and all that stuff they keep on bringning it up like I was doing something immorral!

I've even given the Atkins book to some of them to read AND i've brough before and after pics of some people who have folowed this through ... nothing to do!

Try to remember high school ... if you don't fit in, you're a reject! Well i'm pulled between fitting in ... and fitting in my jeans!

How can I practise Atkins without looking like a freak, eating as a group and out in restaurants?

Any tips on living Atkins normaly?

Anything will help ... but don't tell me to change friends! I love these girls, they are so nice in everything but that ... they are just worried about my health (which i'm happy to say is top-notch but to be safe i'm going for a check up this thuesday)

How did you guys get the people around you to trust you and support you?

Mandee... What I try to do is know where I am going.. Then go online and look at their menus and plan BEFORE I get there.. That way I know what I want without having to listen to others try to change me...

Mandee, I'd quit telling them you are on Atkins and just let them see for themselves how healthy it is.

I think I live quite normally. I was in New York city a few months ago and there was plenty of options for me to eat. Wherever you go, you can always find a salad with some type of meat on it. Or a grilled meat and some sort of steamed vegetable.

I totally can understand how it is with your friends. My friends call it my 'freaky' diet. And they are always always always trying to get me to cheat. My boss is constantly telling me how I need to come "off" this diet. WHY? WHY? WHY? I am healthier than I've ever been. My doctor is thrilled. I'm thinner than I've ever been as an adult, but people are always tring to sabotage. I don't think they do it deliberately...but I do think it sometimes (alright, most times) you'll feel the most pressure from people because THEY feel guilty about their own bad eating habits. If you are eating healthy, then it makes them feel guilty. So, instead of changing THEIR habits, they try to change YOURS. Just ignore it. Smile and say I'll consider it and then keep on truckin on this WOE!!!

Go into the situation knowing that you will be ordering a salad or grilled meat with veggies. Either of these things are healthy and not at all "Atkins like". Avoid candy and soda. Bring healthy snacks with you. I don't know what stage of atkins you're in, but I bring nuts, sunflower seeds, hard boiled eggs, celery sticks, string cheese, etc with me when I go on business trips. Bring a couple water bottles with you and always keep one filled up, take it with you everywhere.

You don't have to get new friends! Just sit them down and say you love them and you are sure they want you to be happy. Explain that eating this way makes you happy.

We all deal with sabbotagers. I have a girl I work with that constantly puts down my way of eating, but she grudgingly admits that I look better and have lost lots of weight! You can do it. You can do it. If a make a mistake on your trip, just make sure the next bite you put in your mouth is legal food!

lol! thanks! Ya well ... i'm gonna avoid telling anyone else i'm on Atkins so I can avoid the "good vs. bad debate". I'm just gonna tell them i'm gluten intolerante (which is not totally false). My friend really just want my health but also, I live in Quebec where people are very closed minded and they don't want to open it for new ideas. (not saying this is bad but it get's on my nerves because the world is bigger than our province) And for people who don't know french-canada ... here poutine is like the BIG thing! If you're cheating, try this some day : fries, gravy and curd cheese! YIUM! It's like a heart attack on a plate, but oh so yummy, especially if you don't weigh 190.

My friends lately REALLY wanna get me to have just one bite ... Anyone got any tips cause it attracts a crowd everytime I say no now. And saying no i'm not hungry dosen't work

Look them dead in the eye and say "Why is it so important for YOU?"

I mean, without them absolutely holding you down and forcing it into your mouth, it's always your choice. If it were cocaine, would you do it??? (I certainly hope not!!!!!!) This is one of those character building times in your life. Always, always, always be true to yourself. Don't dishonor your own wishes by giving into someone else's perverted sense of .... whatever they are getting from pressuring you.

And you can say.. I choose to NOT have a bad upset stomach the rest of the day either. Its poison to my stomach.. I told my sil on Sunday while she was eating all the bad things that I didn't want to hear her complain about her stomach hurting the rest of the week.

I have an online friend thats done about every diet imaginable. She was vegan for awhile and when I mentioned atkins she went off on the horrors of it. I have already been on it once so she didn't convince me of it's evilness. She also tried to tell me that the amount of water I am drinking is bad for me.

and my mom (who is overweight as well) but won't give up cokes to try atkins keeps saying its all a scam that dr atkins was fat.

My attitude is that I don't try to change other people unless they ask for my help specifically. I also feel that my body, my diet etc is a private matter, not up for discussion unless I would like it to be. (I guess I am used to not being supported and I don't expect it from people, although it sure is wonderful when it happens, like at this forum.)

Also I am not a missionary for diets, I an economist by profession not a dietician, so I don't try to convert people to my lifestyle.

Therefore, first of all, I don't tell people I am on a diet, I just eat what I would like to. I don't explain why, I consider it rude for people to comment on my routines and preferences, and it would never occur for me to comment on theirs. However, I do know that some well meaning friends feel they know better what is good for me than I do (that in itself is an insult) but anyway, they will try to persuade me to their way of thinking. That is why I head them off at the pass.... I tell people (if the circumstance calls for it) I like to eat clear meat and natural salads. In company I stick to that, buy myself cheese and take boiled eggs with me if I feel there will be nothing uncontaminated (with something not recommended in Atkins) where I will be eating. And almost everywhere one can get mineral water or bottled water and herbal tea.

In other words, using an old English expression; I "don't go native."
