I've bolded the parts that are the reason why you haven't lost weight on Atkins. See, you either do it the Dr. Atkins' way and be more or less guaranteed to get the results he promised (and you want) OR you do your own thing and get the results you get. Weight loss diets are just like any other medical therapy: if you don't follow it, you aren't going to get the results. Ask your mother or doctor what happens if you are on a 10 day course of antibiotics and you decide to take the antibiotics once every couple of days. Or ask them what happens to people with high blood pressure who only take their blood pressure medications whenever they want to or don't count the sodium in their pretzels and other snack foods to their daily sodium intake. Ask them what happens to a person who just had surgery and doesn't to do bed-side lung expansion exercises. As for "no weight loss", I bet with all that exercise, you've gained muscle mass and the scale isn't showing that muscle mass increase as a fat loss. Therefore, if you gain 1 pound of muscle and lose 1 pound of fat, the scale won't change. Your doctor and your mom, for that matter, should have addressed this fact with you: exercise builds up muscle mass and decreases fat. You're better served to have your body fat percentage calculated than you are standing on a scale. Regarding Atkins not working because you were eating "healthy" (high carb, no junk food, etc.), I was eating a low fat, high carb, no junk food, no caffeine, no artificial sweetener/added sugar, diet with about 75-80% of my total calories coming from rice/potatoes/pasta/vegetables and fruits. In fact, for about 7 years I was a low fat vegetarian. I strictly followed the book and lost 9.5 pounds during the first 14 days of this diet. Atkins and other diets work provided they are followed correctly. Again, you might lose weight doing your own version of things and you might not, as you have seen.

| I agree with not-2-late, if you really expect to see results you really need to follow the plan to the letter. Also make sure you are drinking A LOT of water. Another thing that might help with exercise is mixing up your routine, instead of just the gym try out something like swimming, or a yoga class, the key to it is variety. |

| Your title is misleading. You've lost inches. That's progress. If I had the choice of weighing 130 and being 37-26-36 or weighing 105 and being 37-32-36, I'd take the higher weight and smaller waist. Know why? People don't see my scale. I am the only one who knows that number (well, and my doctor). I'll also agree that you're not doing Atkins. Please don't spread the word that Atkins doesn't work, since you really don't know yet. You have absolutely valid reasons for modifying the diet, but that doesn't make it Atkins. As for what you should do, that's up to you. We can only advise you on how to do Atkins properly. I doubt you're looking for that. None of can tell you how to modify your particular plan to accomplish what you want. And, personally, I think what you want is unrealistic as well. Now, if you just want to vent, we're all here to support you. It's frustrating losing weight and it's tiresome to always think about food. I do hope you get whatever it is you truly want. Laura

| I agree that you need to follow Atkins more 'By the Book', have you read it yet? It's only my 6th day off Atkins and I've allready lost 6lbs. If you've gone a long time without losing anything then you should rethink your diet and what you are doing wrong. I'm sure once you've figured that out Atkins will work for you. Just trying to help, from Jess. :wave EDIT *This Teens thread has been closed due to extended absence of owner.
