Well here I am blogging - something I didn't think I would ever do, but I'm learning to do a lot of things I didn't think I would!
I've been on Atkins for 3 months today - I've lost 26 pounds and 27 inches so I am very happy with where I am right now.
Without the support I've received on this board I don't know if I would have been as eager to continue but because I have so many friends here that help when I need them it's been much easier. I've always tried to go on diets by myself but I knew I needed the encouragement from others and luckily I found it here.
I have finished a clean re-induction - lost 5 pounds and then advanced to OWL Rung 1. This is the beginning of my second week on Rung 1 because I didn't loose any weight last week so I want to see if there is anything that kept me from losing.
I have eaten more veggies in the past 3 months than I've probably ever eaten in my life. Tonight for dinner I had celery & onion sauteed in butter, cauliflower and cabbage cooked with the pork roast we had tonight. I took Sherri's advise about eating veggies low on the GI because they don't bother your blood glucose as much as their higher counterpoints. My blood glucose numbers have been fabulous since I've lost this weight.
I don't understand people not eating their carbs and wondering why they aren't losing weight -- you have to know the rules and follow them strictly to loose the weight, you can't do what you want and follow only the rules that are easiest for you - that's not the way it goes!
I kept the broth from the pork roast tonight to make some sort of soup for lunch tomorrow....I have some of the cabbage left also so I'll throw that in and some green onion, snow peas and cauliflower maybe...I'll have to figure out what I have in the fridge and determine what will make a good soup.
Ok - this is the end of my first blog post. Goodnight!

Oh another Monday and another chance to make a change in my life. My fasting blood sugar number was 99 this morning -- another great reading!! I'm stoked with the way my diabetes is coming in line.
I spent part of the morning looking for new recipes because I said I would try 1 new recipe a week to keep from eating the same thing over and over. I found a few that look real good but I'm also trying something new on my own...we'll see how it comes out!
Last night we had pork roast for dinner -- there was leftovers and I kept the broth off of it so I'm making a vegetable pork soup. I have snowpeas, cauliflower, celery, red and green cabbage, red pepper, celery, green onions, radishes (of course I put radishes in it) and roast pork. For spices I added a couple bay leaves, pinch of cumin, onion powder, chili powder, garlic powder, celery salt, pepper, sea salt - not much of anything just a shake or a pinch of each) also a 1/2 packet of Splenda to wake up the bay leaf flavor - I was always told if you use bay leaves to add sugar to wake it up - so I hope it works. I figure it's about 2 servings (large servings). I put it in FitDay and it came out as 188 ca;proes amd 4.5 net carbs per bowl. Not bad! I just hope it doesn't taste real bad - I'm not too good at making up things!! We'll see!
We had a little snow (just flurries nothing that even made it to the ground) this morning and it's windy and cold again today. I can't believe I've mowed twice and in between each mowing we've had flurries! Ridiculous!
Because it's been so chilly and windy here the past couple days I have an ear ache -- when I went for my walks I thought it would be ok - I had a hat on over my ears but the wind got to them anyway...boo hooo!
Ok, it's wasn't fabulous -- but it wasn't bad...I forgot I put cayenne pepper in it until the heat hit the back of my throat --- I think it needed more celery...maybe next time!Posted April 6th, 2009 at 12:40 PM by imagood1

I had the other bowl of that soup for dinner the other night -- I added another stalk of celery and 3 oz of canned tomatoes and it was delicious! I'll add more water to the pot next time so I can make at least 4 bowls of that soup!
I need to get back on my bike -- maybe tomorrow -- and really have a long session! These short spurts on it just aren't good enough. I haven't had a lot of time this week but tomorrow things settle down again so I'm going to have to have a "play date" with the bike...LOL!
I also need to get some better meals the next few days, I am on plan but the meals haven't been the most thought out ones I've done and it's obvious. I can't afford to get complacient at this stage - I have too much left to loose and I've come this far!Posted April 8th, 2009 at 09:27 PM by imagood1

I really hope people who aren't on Atkins or new people aren't reading these blogs because what I'm seeing are people who AREN'T doing Atkins properly, this is not a fad diet, it's not a fasting, fat free, enema diet.....read the book people. FOLLOW THE RULES or don't say you are on Atkins because you aren't.
This is another reason why Atkins gets such a bad rap. And in 3 - 6 months these people will be back again doing the wrong things and hurting their health. Luckily this is just a small amount of people compared to those who are following the plan correctly. Go back to Slim-Fast and Nutri-System if you can't follow directions because Atkins is a healthy way of eating and a lifelong way of life.Posted April 9th, 2009 at 09:55 AM by imagood1
