| hello there! i feel your pain, i'm really struggling to eliminate sugar completely - particuarly fruit which i find extremely healthy and so hard to give up - especially in scotland where it's so expensive most of the time - except for now! (fresh strawberries, raspberries, peaches.... ![]() okay i've done lots of research into the candida thing. there are a few schools of thought and at least 80% of people believe that mozarella/cream cheese/other non moulded cheese should be okay. the reason you need to cut out the majority of cheese is because it's mould forming (this is why actors refuse to eat it before a performance as it forms mucous in the back of the throat!) so go with cream cheese for the moment - to be honest a low carb diet is pretty unenjoyable without it......! The reason you can't have dairy eg cream/milk etc is because there's lactose in it. you are supposed to eliminate all sugar in any form otherwise it won't kill the yeasties. it won't be for long! okay as for the rest; parmasean cheese? bleu cheese? (absolutely not. in fact these two are probably the worst as they are extremely mouldy. (just for now remember - not forever! you are only doing this to eliminate the yeasties) mushrooms = again, you are eliminating foods that feed the fungal infection. and what better to feed a fungus than a fungus! steer WELL away from mushrooms - one of the top things to avoid) olives - hmmm, again one of these some do/some don't. i would get ones without any vinegar dressing etc.... pepperoncini (bc of vinegar) not sure on this one - did you mean pepperoni? also wasn't sure what you meant by bc? essentially, you should be living off meat, veg, fish, eggs with a few important additions. of paramount importance is YOGHURT!! try and have a small amount each day but it must be plain unsweetened yoghurt...full fat if poss. luckily i find this kind of yoghurt really tasty and can't have anything like mullers as they are too sweet. Things like omlettes, chicken wings (done yourself) chilli mince(not too spicy) will be your saviours! if you want some recipes let me know. good luck with it! x sarah

| I just started a Candida Cleanse about a week ago. I am finding it difficult to get by but I have cut out ALL dairy, all cheese, cream cheese, vinegar, mayo, mustard, etc.... I am eating eggs, meants, poultry and veggies. I think I will try this one more week, along with the supplements, herbs, and candidacleanse and see how things go after that. Good luck and please keep us posted! |

| hey there, a month is usually about standard to start seeing the effects. again depends on the severity of your symptoms. did you know that 80% of the planet is lactose intolerant? perhaps you may find it's a bigger problem than you thought? it's a worthwhile exercise to eliminate lactose...if you've ever read anything about the paleolithic way of eating....out bodies have spent 2million years with a practically non-changing diet until a few thousand years ago. hence milk was NEVER in our diet! Any-hoo this is atkins....i know butter, cream, cheese etc is all good here! but have you tried soya milk? i always turned up my nose at it but it's actually okay! lol. hope this helps. sarah

| Hey Sarah Thanks for your answer! So you need to cut out all dairy? Including butter, cream etc? My biggest conscern is DEVELOPING an intolerance from lactose by doing this. I studied nutrition at universtiy (amongst alot of other things) and one incredibly common fact - in relation to dairy products - is that the cleansing of ones body from them for a period of time (around 4-7 weeks) actually causes people to BECOME intolerant to the products when they introduce them back. People may not be 100% tolerant to them in the first place, but they cope with them fine and can naturally include them in their diet - but the severe removal then reintroduction will almost always cause severe digestional disfunction. Also, i do understand that with dairy, vinegar needs to be removed, so would this not remove major fat sources from this high fat diet? Like mayonnaise, mustards, cheeses etc. Or is it that butter and cream can be kept due to the absence of lactose in them? And yes - i've tired and actually LOVE soy milk, but it is by far one of the highest sugar-content beverages around.... they gotta add something to make the soy bearable, right? Bye!

| hi there! oh now that's a very interesting theory. i did wonder about that myself! lol. but if you demonstrate an intolerance after cutting something out - would that not indicate the intolerance was there to begin with? (it's quite a chicken or egg conundrum?) yep - no butter, cream, vinegar(you can have apple cider vinegar though and make your own mayo). however remember although many people associate atkins with high fat in the form of saturates you can actually get it all from healthy fats; think olive oil, oily fishes, avocado, coconut oil, nuts, full fat bio yoghurt, full fat cottage cheese. (now there's also a little debate over the fresh cheese situation. 90% of sources say yes but if your candida is particuarly stubborn then it may be worth taking it out) to be honest, although i think a little butter every now and then is okay - i would always use olive oil in any cooking situation - or even better for your candida - coconut oil. it's a medium chain fatty acid and stands up well to cooking and the candida HATES it for some reason! on the soya milk subject, you should be able to take the unsweetened one - it's 0.1g of carbs per 50ml or something! you'll just have to experiment with your drink and see if it needs a wee touch of sweetener. so basically your diet sheet should read - meat, fish, eggs, cream/fresh cheese, home made mayo, plenty veggies, no fruit to begin with and spend some money buying the following as these are natures own anti-biotics; Coconut oil - comes as a solid, bit weird at first but lovely in stir fries! Oil of oregano - probably one of the most potent anti-fungals. aloe vera juice - helps flush it all out! a good multi-vit i'm putting together a diet sheet hopefully soon! (changing jobs at the moment) i'll IM you it when its ready? meantime good luck and share any of your success! luv sarah

| thanks so much for your helpful reply! That definately makes thing alot clearer for me. I have been told however that even if you are a little intolerant to cheese (for example) it may not effect you THAT badly, but once you cut it out THEN reintroduce it you become incredibly intollerant because you have lost your comping/tollerance mechanisms.... I want to give this ago but I fear it may restrict my already restricted diet too much! I'm definately going to look into it though. Thanks Sarah Dot
