Ack. I'm tired and I'm confusing myself! I've put "The Yeast Connection" by Crook on hold at the library, but I'm not sure if they still have a copy...it says it is shelved, that one other person has it on hold, and that there are no copies. I'm thinking that just doesn't add up! So I'm going to swing by the bookstore and see if they have it.

When I take on-line assessments, I score quite high; and this is a subject that I've discussed with my NP in the past...she thinks that my chronic sinus problems could be yeast related.

In any event, thank you so much for sharing your experience!

I lucked out and got a copy of the Yeast Connection at a Friends of the Library sale for a dime. Can't beat that.

My sister had a horrible sinus infection for over a year and antibiotic after antibiotic didn't do a thing. She also had a severe reaction to any household cleaning chemicals. I got her to go on the strict yeast-free diet and all of it went completely away. She had completely lost her sense of smell, and it is back, too.

My library system, Augusta County, Staunton and Waynesboro has several copies. They even have a newer 2006 edition. Mine's mid-90's.

Sunny, What order and time of the day are you taking your antifungals & probiotics? I started the yeast diet Monday so I'm only on day 2 but I am unsure if I should be starting with them right away or wait a week or two after doing the strict food diet first for a week. I used coconut oil to stir fry my chicken and vegetables in last night and have been using a olive oil / acv dressing for my salads. I don't feel any different so I think maybe I should start the anti fungals and probiotics. What are your thoughts? Thanks

I never used any anti-fungals except natural ones like coconut oil, baking soda (to brush teeth and apply in a paste for skin yeast) and olive leaf extract. I took proboitics right from the first day. Three times the normal doseage.

You should not use apple cider vinegar. Vinegar is why you can't use mayo and mustard. Use fresh squeezed lemon or lime juice for the tart flavor of salad dressings.

It might take more than two days to start to feel the yeast die-off. I felt worse for about a week and a half, then started feeling better near the end of the second week.

How long did it take Thread is great. I've had a yeast problem for 2 yrs. now on and off, mostly on. The problem started when I was 4 mos. preg. with my son, and then after the birth, I had steriod injections for a back problem and I can't get my system back in balance. Tried Diflucan - MULTIPLE TIMES, did the week long cream - MULTIPLE TIMES, tried the diet - not so strict, with very basic results. Now, I'm back to the strict diet. You read the books and think - is this really necessary or can I do most of it. Now I know from all the posts, yes, the diet is necessary.
- My question is; if I go back on the strict anti-Yeast diet, is it okay to still do the Diflucan and Cream? I'll do anything.
- I have not tried the long term nystatin yet, but I've heard Diflucan is more powerful. Is it worth trying if I'm already doing the Diflucan?

My issues have stopped me from doing as much as I would like to on days. I want to lose another 10-15 lbs. from having the baby anyway. Help, any thoughts????

You can take Diflucan and use the cream while on the strict version of the diet. That is what is recommended in the Yeast Connection.

I don't know much about the prescription anti-fungals, but I don't think I would do both at one time. Nystatin is known for causing fatigue and depression.

I had such a bad over-growth that my tongue looked like a white fur rug, which broke off in chunks, but I got completely rid of it just using natural remedies. I used the coconut oil, which will give you quick energy as well as function as an anti-fungal. I brushed my teeth with plain baking soda and swished it around in my mouth at least three times a day. I took triple doses of probiotics to repopulate my system with good bacteria.

Still, the most important thing was to stay on the strictest form of the diet for at least 14 days. That means no coffee, tea, dried herbs and spices, vinegar, condiments, mayo, ketchup, nuts, dairy and bread and grains and so on.

Question Re: How long does it take?

Hello everybody. I have to agree; this is a useful thread. But I saw a few things that I'm not so sure about. I've heard that the apple cider vinager can be used on the yeast diet and that it kills the yeast. Is this true? I have come across it many other times and this is the first place that I've seen that said anything about not using it.

Also, I've never heard the part about the herbs and spices contain molds and being off limits from the diet. I don't know if this is true or not. Has anybody else heard this to be true?

When it comes to the tea's, you can use caffeine free herbal teas that do not have any black tea or green tea in them. Celestial Seasonings has a lot of great herbal teas to pick from, but I would suggest everybody read the lables as to what is in each one. I'd never heard of the Chamomile tea killing the yeast, but if that is also true, that's great too. I drink Chamomile tea all the time at night before bed.

Question; Does anybody know it Splenda is bad for the yeast diet or not? I have found so many things that say yes it's ok and then I find just as many things that say no it's not ok. Does anybody know it Splenda feeds yeast or not?

One major problem I'm having is that while the yeast diet really does help and work very well, I'm going to have to give it up because of the lack of money. This makes me so mad but there is really nothing I can do about it. I've been doing the diet now for at least a week and a half and I'm out of the right food and I have no money to buy anything right now. So I guess if I don't want to starve I'll have to eat whatever is in the house that everybody else is eating, which I promise you it's not on the yeast diet list. Oh well, I guess that's just the way life is. So, just be for warned that the yeast diet can be expensive, but it is well worth it. I've only been doing this for a week and a half and I already feel 75% better.

Good luck to everybody!

One more thing; I'm not calling anybody a liar. I just wanted to hear what other people have heard or know to be true.

Default Re: How long does it take?

As I understand it, there is a big difference between the 'live' health food store type of Apple Cider Vinegar (which looks cloudy with sediment) and standard supermarket Cider Vinegar which has been heat treated so it's 'dead'. The 'live' type apparently works against the yeast, but the 'dead' type is like any other vinegar and should be avoided.

Hope this helps. I was trying to do a yeast free diet but after 4 days I realized I should have been cutting out mayonnaise and should NOT have been cutting out the 'live' ACV that I use in salad dressings
