Default Splenda sensitivity - yuck!

Is this normal? I am guessing it is candida. Has anyone else developed this after being on the low carb thing for awhile? I don't remember EVER having the loose BM after drinking a soft drink, but now, it never fails. Is there a way I can "get back to normal" and start drinking caf free diet coke again?

Not sure whether you have candida issues or not, but I'd be careful of the diet coke if I were you. Diet coke has been know to be quite a staller. Or... maybe you're just sensitive to splenda. Have you tried saccharin? That's ok for Atkins too.

i can't have splenda at all. even small amounts send me bouncing off the walls - racing pulse, insomnia, even jiggly eyes.

my aunt can't have any kind of artificial sweetener for they same reason you described.

Steer clear of diet drinks altogether! They contain aspartame which in clinical studies causes Cancer tumors. Google "Dangers of Diet Sodas" or "Aspertame and Cancer" and see what it says. Very scary stuff. I always read the labels and never buy soda due to the aspertame dangers and the 10 to 12 teaspoons of sugar in every can of pop.

I have to agree, I have found that any sugar substitute just makes me sick. I dropped the diet coke right from the start just like they suggested. But I wanted something else other then water. So, I tried Crystal Lite... omg I have never been sicker. I cant touch the stuff. Maltodextrin is another one - just sick to my stomach & have loose stools also.

I will take another glass of WATER I guess.

Hello,
It's best to steer clear of Chemicle based sweetners. They are extremely harmful to your health.
I personally choose sweetners that are naturally based as in Stevia or Xylitol (derivative of Birch, hardwood).
Also, this is a must read-
Link to: APARTAME---the shockingstory of the world's best seeling sweetner "The Ecologist by Pat Thomas
http://www.wnho.net/the_ecologist_aspartame_report.htm

This is what Splenda is-

SPLENDA (sucralose)
Why is Splenda potentially harmful?
According to the Splenda International Patent A23L001-236 and PEP Review #90-1-4 (July 1991) Sucralose is synthisized by a five step process.
To illistrate the alarming "chemicle soup" required to create sucralose, listed are the chemicles used to produce this sweetner and to secure the chlorine does NOT digest in your body.
1.) Acetone
2.) Acetic Acid
3.) Acetyl Alcohol
4.) Acetic Anhydride
5.) Ammonium Chloride
6.) Benzene
7.) Chlorinated Sulfate
8.) Ethyl Alcohol
9.) Isobutyl Ketones
10.) Formaldehyde
11.) Hydrogen Chloride
12.) Lithium Chloride
13.) Methonal
14.) Sodium Methoxide
15.) Sulfuryl Chloride
16.) Trityl Chloride
17.) Taluene
18.) Thionyle
Splenda (made from sucralose) is created in the lab by using a complex process involving dozens of chemicles you and I can barely pronounce- let alone consume. Basicly, the chemists force chlorine into an unatural chemicle bond with a sugar molecule, resulting in a sweeter product, but at a price: a huge amount of artificial chemicles must be added to keep sucralose from digesting in our bodies. These toxic substances also prevent (hopefully) the dangerous chlorine molecules from detaching from the sugar molecules inside the digestive system, which would be a carcenogenic hazard.

Stevia is a healthy sugar substitute but has a little bitterness as well as sweetness but it is packed with nutrients and is highly recommended. I have lost9 pounds over the past two months eating only fresh (not canned or packaged ) food, chicken breast, fish and very little red meat (only organic because of all the hormones they pump into birds and animals to make them fatter). I was a dairy freak before and had lots of runny poohs and have cut out all cheese except cottage and a wee bit of feta for my salads. I make huge salads with broccoli carrots romaine and field greens lettuce ( not head....no nutrition in head lettuce), tomatoes, garlic, onion, celery and strawberries and shaved almonds and walnut (they suppress the appetite). My husband gobbles it up! Yummy!!! He is losing weight too. We drink rice milk (organic brown rice milk) It is so sweet and delicious and there is no sugar added. You can get it at the Superstore or any organic food store. We also drink warm herbal tea after meals in the evening to stave off hunger pangs and we look forward to our little ritual and we drink tomatoe and cranberry juice (unsweetened if possible) and lots of water. We have an occasional red wine but avoid alcohol as it lays on the calories BIG TIME! We eat tons of organic yogurt with active good bacteria...PLAIN and unsweetened and add our own wild blueberries and whatever fresh fruit that is in season( frozen otherwise). The flavored stuff is full of sugar as it is just jam that is added in. We eat at home as the cost of eating out is enormous and you cannot monitor what you are eating and it is likely not too healthy. I often get ill after eating out on occasion. We make smoothies with bananas and nuts and flaxseed and yogurt and rice milk and berries with a little honey.....AWESOME treat!!!!!n I used to buy lots of fruit juice but started to gain back weight due to the high sugar content. Cancer adores sugar apparently and thrives on it. Some moderate exercise is a must though along with healthy eating habbits. My BM movements are awesome every day now and I feel so much more alive and energetic! Try this out and I know you will be thrilled with the results. Be patient though, as you must keep up the routine for a couple of months so your metabolism can adjust. NEVER EVER skip meals! Small frequent portions of non starchy food and no bread except rye or yeast free breads....those small dark German packs of bread in the Deli section are perfect. A whole different taste but quite nice when you get used to it. Most breads contain salt, sugar and yeast and cause water retention and bloating. One slice can blow me up to looking 9 months pregnant and who the heck needs to look like that!
We go on walks for an hour every day or at least a few times a week when things get busy and THAT is what really takes the weight off and leaves us in much better moods and sleeping like babies.Good luck!!!! Oh...and yes....8 glasses of filtered water a day....bottled water is just tap water apparently. Get a Britta! (or reverse osmosis installed in your house). Take care and let me know if you try it and how it works for you. Bye

Almost forgot ....even though this may seem obvious....NO DEEP FRIED ANYTHING!!!! CANCER of the bowel could be the result as well as clogged arteries and heart attack or stroke. We scramble eggs in coconut butter which we use instead of butter. It is highly nutritious and delicious too! The pounds really started to melt off when we added this to the plan. Use olive oil,m fesh lemon juice and apple cider vinegar for salads and bake with coconut butter. We buy it in gallon tubs on the internet and keep smaller jars of it on the kitchen counter and spread it on German bread or melt it on veggies....yum! Only use sea salt....NOT iodized salt. Never buy regular salad dressings....packed with sugar and fats. I know it may all sound overwhelming but it is not and everything tasts so much better and you get results like you would not believe! I have lost all my lumpiness and feel "smooth" again and your skin will look less wrinkled too from the coconut butter and all the vitamins in the veggies. Do not overcook them. Steaming is best or boiling for a short while...just until tender. Ok My typing fingers are wearing out...lol. Good luck.

Here's a great post from my friend Sunny regarding Candida Yeast.
Lots of informitive information regarding candida yeast and how to get rid of it.

Re: How long does it take?
I was on antibiotics by mouth for close to a year. Then, I was in the hospital for over a month with drip antibiotics around the clock. Then I had surgery and antibiotics by mouth for another month. My tongue looked like it had a white fur rug on it. I had cracks in the corner of my mouth, an itchy (you know), my bowel movements were foamy and floated, it itched like crazy around my anus, had gas and bloating and a host of other nasty symptoms.

First, I tried going by Dr. Atkins yeast-free diet and I took probiotics. I bought Monistat cream for the itchy parts. It helped some, but when I added cheese and vinegar back in, it came right back.

Then, I got the book "The Yeast Connection" and followed the strictest version of the diet for two weeks and it was completely gone. It stayed gone until I was craving blue cheese dressing and ate a whole bottle in about three days and I made and ate blue cheese burgers. I'm sure my "Yeastie Beasties" were craving the moldy cheese. Back came some of the symptoms.

So....I did the diet really strict again for 14 days and then slowly added back coffee and chamomile tea. So far it has been gone for several months.

These are the foods that will prevent the yeast from dying, so you should give them all up for at least 14 days.

All dried and ground food products contain molds including:
Coffee
Tea, including herbal
dried herbs and spices (including pepper)
cocoa powder

All vinegar and products made with vinegar or fermented including:
soy sauce
bottled salad dressings and marinades
mayonnaise
mustard
pickles
olives

All dairy including:
Milk
cream
cheese, especially moldy cheeses
cream cheese
sour cream
cottage cheese

Any and all sugar, including fruit
All grains, breads, crackers
Mushrooms

It's actually easier to say what you can eat: All Atkins legal fresh and frozen veggies, as long as they are washed really well and don't have blemishes. Fresh and frozen meats of all kinds. Oils, butter, coconut oil and lard for your fats.

You can use fresh squeezed lemon or lime juice to make salad dressings. I didn't think I would like them, but I never went back to bottled dressings since I started the yeast-free diet.

As soon as food starts to cool, molds start to form. Some people can't eat leftovers at all. Try not to make too much food ahead.

Coconut oil is anti-fungal, so I took 3 tablespoons a day by mouth. Garlic is anti-fungal, as well. Chamomile tea is a strong anti-fungal, so I drank a lot of strong chamomile tea every day after the first few days. Take double probiotics.

The candida is completely throughout your digestive system, starting with the mouth. Baking soda is a strong anti-fungal, so I brushed my teeth three times a day with baking soda and swished it around my mouth.

When done right, the yeast die-off was worse than induction flu. I felt horrible for the first few days. Then, the bloating started to leave and I started to feel better. The white furry tongue started to lose the coating in chunks, leaving sore places.

After a full 14 days, all symptoms were gone. All the itchy stuff and my bowl movements were solid and heavy once again.

The other thing that happened was that some cracks on either side of my nose and mouth went away, as did some crusty, scaly skin beside my lips. I didn't even know that these skin problems were yeast related.

I still can't use much dairy, but I have been back drinking tea and coffee and using vinegar and condiments and eating mushrooms, pickles and olives with no problem. I think moldy cheeses like blue cheese are off my menu forever.

I just consider it the Boot Camp Uber Atkins Induction Diet! All fresh, unprocessed foods for two weeks. It wasn't fun, but it works and so many aspects of my health are better, so I will do it any time I have a problem.

Sunny!

Default Re: Splenda sensitivity - yuck!

I have a frriend my own age who was just burried. She had cancer and she lived on junk food....potato chips, hamburgers and hot dogs, candy bars and chocolate bars (80% DARK chocolate in small portions is ok a couple times a week),ice cream, cake, pie, cookies, donuts, bagels, cheese, cheese, and cheese! She drank sodas several time a day and rarely ate veggies....and she smoked. She was loaded with cancer and died a horrible death. I pray I am spared this kind of fate and it inspired me to change my own eating habits as I was experiencing migraines, gas, arthritis, and shortness of breath just tying my shoelaces!!!
I have no more migraines...oh yes...I also stopped taking pain killers because the drug companies survive by getting us addicted to medications. They would be broke if we were naturally healthy. Since I stopped with headache pills and started eating well the migraines are gone and I feel so much better. No more bloating or gas either and now I can run and have fun with my horse! Emotional eating gets a lot of us into trouble....that and boredom. Eat until you are satisfied and then STOP! Each hunger pang only requires an apple (organic because of high pesticide sprays on fruit DDT for example...especially apples and grapes).
I'll bet you wish I never got started...lol...it is just that I am so ecited by the new me and so is my husband.
