| I hope you find some answers, I know I have yeast too and when I went to the health food store it was so overwhelming I came home empty handed! I've been on induction for over a week and only lost 2 pounds. I think yeast might be the issue... The diet for it makes me want to cry though! Good luck! |

| Hey there, I’ll tell you what I can remember off the top of my head, but there are a lot of books on the subject … personally I would recommend Doug Kaufmann. Take a couple of the listed remedies together for a time (I have heard 4 days to 2 weeks, I do it for a week) then switch to another couple herbals each week. The Candida will become tolerant of the anti-fungals so if you rotate them they will be more effective. Take live probiotics a couple of times every day. Yeast feeds on sugars so you can weaken them by adhering to a low carb diet and avoiding fungus (like mushrooms and aged cheese), fermented foods, and processed foods. I think the best recommendation I read was “don’t eat anything that won’t spoil soon, but only while absolutely fresh”. Also, tap and most bottled water is contaminated with antibiotics, birth control pills and chlorine all of which destroy the healthy bacteria that helps bring the intestinal balance back. Distilled water is safe, I think. Work your way up to 2 or 3 doses of plain psyllium husks a day to scrape some of the yeast out of your intestines and let the herbs reach in there. There are also a couple of prescription meds that are available. Some people use them first to jump start it then continue with the herbals. I have read from 4 months to cure up to no cure just lifetime management. I hope this helps. Please chime in if I missed something or messed up and remembered incorrectly. |

| How's it going Trisha? Did you opt for a particular course of action?

| Yes, there is a perscription you can take. In the past my doctor gave me diflucan for 6 weeks in conjunction with oil of oregano, garlic, grapefruit seed extract, caprylic acid, pau d'arco, peppermint extract, probiotics, three lac, and a host of vitamins. The regimen started out with my being on a strict candida/atkins diet for 6 weeks, using all the herbs, supplements, and vitamins. I also had to do some form of exercise 6 days a week that would induce me to sweat for 30 minutes (this was to help with die-off response). Next we added the diflucan. After that we cut everything except for the garlic, three lac, and the vitmains. I started in May and finished the program in January. I lost 60 pounds, got rid of my candida, and improved my health. My point in telling you this is that it is not a single pill or herb that fixes the problem. It's a lot of things. Consider this - first you need to adjust your diet in order to starve the candida. Next you need to use some herbs/pills to kill the yeast (mind you it will kill all yeast and not just albicans). This causes a die-off response so you need to address riding your body of that too, then you need to repopulate your system by using probiotics (because you need to repopulate it with a healthy balance of yeast). The process generally take between 4 and 8 months depending on the severity, and you can never really go back to your pre-treatment eating pattern because the yeast problem can easily come back (which I had happen and am preparing to treat now). My thoughts are to consult with a doctor who is willing to work with you, precribe the diflucan, monitor you with some blood tests, etc; and to research everything you do carefully as well as to monitor your own responses carefully so you don't cause yourself additional health problems. |
