Default Re: Oil of Oregano or Coconut Oil?

I've done a full blown Atkins/Candida cleanse diet before - back in 2003 - over the course of 10 months. The one thing I will say is what my doctor told me and what Atkins said as well - it is never over. You can't ever really go back to eating completely normal food. I did, and it has been a disaster. I gained back the 100 pounds I lost (a loss I had sustained for 3 years) in just 2 years. I severely sprained my ankle 2 years ago, couldn't exercise, got depressed, ate, took chances on things I wasn't supposed to eat, stopped my supplements, and the yeast came back full force. Now, I am in the midst of beginning all over again.

Here is the thing. You do need a number of things to attack the candida since the same things don't work equally well for everybody. Why? Because there are I believe 17 other types of yeast in your intestine that haven't been researched and so, the yeast over-growth may not necessarily be albicans. My doctor suggested several different herbal remedies in additon to a 3-month perscription for diflucan. I also looked at Atkins book Vitanutrient Solution. After doing a ton of investigating, knowing what was effective last time and what wasn't, I have put together an ansenal I am going to rotate every so many weeks in order to deem what is most effective and to rid myself of the candida again.

For me the things that worked last time were garlic, grapefruit seed extract (pill form), oil of oregano, and Candidcid Forte (a mixture of herbs). The coconut oil did nothing for me. This time however, I am starting out also with olive leaf extract, propolis, and caprylic acid. Now, this is not to say that coconut oil doesn't work, but it didn't for me. My point is you need to experiement a little and find out what is effective for you. This is still a virtually unstudied area. Luckily my mom is a nurse and has worked as a medical researcher, my cousin in a surgeon, my aunt was chief of surgery, another was a nurse, and I have a few others in the field. Thus, I can bounce things off of them, go through their journals, and find much of the information I need easily. But at the end of the day it is a lot of research, trial and error, and hard work just to get yourself on track.

If you want a copy of what I am doing I am happy to email it to you. But, as I said, you need to figure out what addresses your specific case. Try both, and perhaps try a few other things as well.

Good luck,
Jeanne

wouldn't washing it away with water defeat the purpose?
i think you're suppose to take things under your tongue so they get absorbed into the veins under there....

I have to admit I do the swish with water thing after a few minutes. I've been dotting three drops - three times a day for a while now... it gets better but still burns. You/we must try to keep it under the tongue as long as possible. The reason for putting it there in the first place is because it can absorb into our system without going through the stomach. Going through the stomach lowers it's potency and efficacy.

You can dilute it but the longer it stays under the tongue the better

There are quite a few herbs that help with yeast. I work with herbs a lot and made a tea of some of them, but here are a few really good herbs that you can probably find easily, or in extract form (besides the OOO and coconut oil)

Black Walnut
Chamomile
Calendula
Clove
Cinnamon
Garlic
Goldenseal
Lemongrass
Licorice Root
Pau D'Arco
Peppermint
Rosemary
Sage
Turmeric

A lot of those herbs you can cook with! I have been trying to add lots of garlic to everything I cook, it can't hurt.
