Well, as of today, I've lost 103 pounds. I can't even believe it.

Tip #1: If I had it to do over again, I would not have made time-specific weight goals for myself. When I reached a year of doing Atkins, I was so mad that after a whole year I hadn't lost 100 pounds, or even made it out of the 200s (I was 2 pounds short of that), that I decided to stop doing Atkins. Even though I maintained an extremely rigorous exercise schedule, just changing the way I ate (and not even overeating) caused me to gain over 30 pounds in three months. If I hadn't had arbitrary goals like that, I would never have had that let-down.

Tip #2: Work that body out people. You'll look so much better at a higher weight than you ever did before. I was MUCH lighter in high school, yet I can fit in my cheerleading outfit and prom dress at 26 years old and 172 pounds. Unbelievable! I feel so strong and capable, too.

Tip #3: Don't start Atkins for any reason except that you are totally mentally ready to lose the weight and commit to the program. In my humble opinion, those who start and stop and cheat often are just taking their bodies for a rollercoaster ride and are not ever getting the full benefits of this lifestyle. There's nothing wong with educating yourself first and starting when YOU are ready.

Tip #4: Get support. This is a great place!

The first three days are the hardest. If you can get through those (and you can do anything for 3 days!), it's smooth sailing after that.

Let me tell you, sitting here in size 12 jeans (and shrinking), knowing I'll never return to plus size clothes or the 200s again makes it all worth it.

Happy losing.

So according to my calculations, overall, on this WOE, i have lost 180 pounds. Though not all at the same time. When i was 18, i lost 80 pounds within 5 months (very strict, very no fruits, and only lettuce as veggie). I did unfortunately put this back over the course of time and pregnancy, plus more. So Jan-May 2004 i lost 50 pounds... eating more veggies, still not working out... from Jan-now i have lost 50 pounds with working out (weights, and cardio) and eating veggies and fruits (more veggies than fruit) and there have been a *few* cheats along the way, including one that lasted about a month or so... I figure that by the time i am where i want to be, i will have lost 235 pounds on this WOE/WOL. I suppose the good news would be that i currently weigh less than i did when i very first started this, the bad news being that i have wasted 6 years... had i stuck with it the first time...

All I would like to say here is that losing 108 lbs so far has been quite easy with Atkins--Really!! High carb made me feel like crap and Atkins has made me feel fabulous! I do not exercise like I should, but plan to step it up toward the end of the fat loss part of my journey. I have been flat out amazed at my transformation and it is all because of this fantastic WOE. Frankly, I give little effort and get loads of results. When I give lots of effort, I have lost as much as 11 lbs in a month.

Atkins has changed my life, no doubt. Without it, I know I would probably weigh in at 325 lbs now, instead of 214. Some folks need a diet that tells them to get rid of the sugar and starch, and I am one of them. I now eat green veggies instead of sugary/starchy foods, which can only be better for me. I look forward to eating the Atkins way and I think therein lies the reason for my success...I really and truly enjoy what I eat so I will stick with it my whole life.

It would be the greatest understatement to say that my life has changed very much since starting this way of life on March 23, 2005. Now, a relatively short time later, I have lost 108 pounds. Here is my story so far.

I thought I was going to die EVERYDAY. My blood pressure was simply out of control, I was having chest pains every day with any amount of exertion. My feet were constantly swollen, the skin so taut and shiney that it looked like it had been oiled. Even the act of taking a shower was a horrible experience that would leave me exhausted and in physical pain for the rest of the day. My wife and I had stopped being intimate simply because I feared that I would die during the process.
Mentally, I was a total wreck as well. I had not looked at another human being (outside of my wife and daughter) in six months and I had not spoken to anyone in my family in over four (again, outside of my wife and daughter). I would not let my wife or daughter hug me or even snuggle up against me. I was not the funny, lovable, cuddly bear that my wife fell in love with, and I thought that it was only a matter of time until I became to repulsive for her to love.
By the beginning of March I decided that I was going to give Atkins a try. I had heard so many people saying how unhealthy it was, but only one thought filled my head. How can Atkins be so unhealthy that I can see it as too dangerous to attempt; what can be more unhealthy than living life the way I am living right now at nearly 600 pounds?
At that point, I gave it twenty-two days. I told my wife that she and my daughter had twenty-two days (until her birthday) to eat any way they wished and stock the fridge with all the crap that was currently in it. I closed by saying that on the 23rd, I was throwing everything that wasn't part of the plan away. I thought my wife would be a little ticked at my 'attitude' about the whole thing, but she knows me well enough to know that I have to drill sergeant myself into anything drastic. She excitedly told me that it was an excellent idea.
On the 23rd when I woke up, I began. Before my induction was over, I found ADBB. I was directed to the Century Club and haven't really left since. The weight just flew off of me. I started exercising regularly for the first time in my entire life. It was amazing to watch the stamina that had been gone so long coming back. I had high expectations; if you read the forums you can't help but have them, but honestly I figured I would be doing good to pull of one hundred pounds in a single year. As it stands today, I have already passed that mark with months left to go. Now, I shoot for that 200 pounds lost mark, and I don't have any doubts about making it there.
Life has been returned to me already. My wife and I are intimate once again, I talk to my family and friends, and I have ventured back out into the world. I no longer feel so repulsive (though I do have my days), and I find that I feel so good much more often than I feel bad.
Physically, my heart rate has dropped radically. Before I began dieting my resting heart rate was always 110-120 bpm. These days, though still weighing a whopping 467, my resting heart rate averages from 70-90 bpm. My blood pressure has dropped significantly. My chest pains are very much less common, and my feet have not been swollen in months.
I have to thank Dr. Atkins and all those great CCers from ADBB for helping me get started getting my life back. If not for you, I do not doubt that I literally would be in a coffin by now. I love you guys for that, and I always will.

I would like to thank all of you for your storys. Your stories are what I look forward to at the end of every day. I am a full time student and mother , many days I have to run to the grocery store at the end of my school day to get dinner. Today I did this and stopped at the bakery to get by daughter a cookie. Sitting there in the case was the most amazing looking mile high brownie cheese cake .... I will not lie I stood there thinking for at least a good solid minute debating on getting that instead of my big bag of shrimp. I decided to take the shrimp. I came in the house peed on my keto stick watched it turn purple and then came to read all the great storys here !
THANK YOU ALL
for keeping me on track and making me see that it CAN happen
Hugs !!!!
