| I recently joined the club and it was one of the greatest feelings in my entire life. I was always a chubby kid I suppose. Maybe 10-15 pounds overweight. Though in high school I ended up at about 220 in 11th grade. Being 5'9" that is a heafty. I was PE for all 4 years and my senior year I took basketball/weight lifting and got down to about 190. I was feeling great. I met my now wife and though it was a bit sooner than I thought it would be, we had a son at the ripe old age of 20. During her pregnancy I ate more than she did. By the time my son was born I was back up to about 220. We moved to Arkansas, and once we got settled, I started college and she started working. I eventually left college and didn't finish and ended up being a stay at home dad. For some reason I barely left the house unless it was to pick up my son or go to taco bell. I fell into a funk that lasted damn near 3 years. Looking back, not finishing college probably had a lot to do with it. Finally in late August, 2008 I was kicking myself as I often did for letting myself get to the weight I was at. I had some mild success with Atkins in the past so I decided right then and there to give it another go and no matter what I would stick to this diet. I read all night about the diet and found this fantastic board. Gobbled up all the information I could and by the next night I went in for my initial weigh in. It was a terrible feeling when I saw 273 pounds. I couldn't believe it. It eventually only led to me being more motivated. By November 2008, I was down to about 245 and feeling pretty confident in the process. I had told my dad I wanted to join the Air Force. I looked at the requirement. 180 pounds for a 5'9" male to get in. I lowered my goal weight from 190 to 180 and kept on with the diet. In January of 09 I started working security at Children's Hospital in Little Rock. I was about 225 and I was really finally starting to see changes in my face. At about 212 I was talking with a recruiter and introducing myself and telling him he WILL see me back in a few months. By July I was about 190, my initial goal, and talked to my recruiter futher. Same outcome, lose weight come back. September was the magic month of reaching my Air Force weight. I weighed 180 pounds. It finally dawned on me that I was 7 little pounds away from losing 100 pounds! While I didn't struggle, the 170s have gone sllllow. I did finally hit 173 in October and I have pretty much stayed there for some reason. Everyone keeps saying I look too skinny now! Wish they would make up their minds! Well I get a call from my recruiter today telling me he is scheduling me for testing on Wednesday, need to fill out some paperwork on Thursday, and will hopefully get me at least enlisted by next week! All he said when I told him how much I lost to join the Air Force is "DAMN DUDE!". Could not imagine going back to the way things were. Every aspect in my life has improved. Atkins is fantastic. But honestly the reason I stuck with the diet was reading everyone else's success stories and saying to myself, " I WANT TO BE THAT PERSON!". I kept a picture log which I have posted in other threads of my weight loss journey. You can see it at: Index of /mbchrono/progress Wow that went on way too long.

| You guys are truly a major inspiration to me. I find my own story in all of your stories. This road we're all on is not promised to be a smooth and straight one. It does come with a few curves a few bumps and few dips and a few hills to climb. You guys have made it through this road and come out as champions. It's only my fourth day on atkins but I can't wait until the day comes when I will become a member of the century club. Thank you guys so much. Yu don't know how much this means to me. |
