| Sure. Don't expect to lose 100 pounds this week. I hate when people say, "You didn't gain it over night, so you won't lose it overnight." But, in truth, it will take a while and I am sure you will be shocked to see what a difference 10 or 20 pounds makes. People will ask you what you did with your hair or teeth or clothes. It really is not that bad once you get a plan or routine and stick to it. There are volumes in this site that can help you. Some people get sick of the food and others realize you have to be creative with it. Do it right and it works. I will tell you the hardest thing for me...Cooking ahead of time. Well doing anything ahead of time, to be honest. I run out of time before work to throw together lunch. I am good at making lots of tuna and cutting up vegetables and taking that for the week. I try really hard to pack Tuesday's lunch when I cook Monday's dinner, for example. Get used to drinking more water and do some form of exercise. I realize you will read the book and get the details, so I am being kinda vague here. If there is any specific thing that you get stuck on, just ask. So many people are here are half of them are bound to respond within 15 minutes! Good luck and congrats for starting. Can't lose 100 pounds before you lose 10!!! It's like Lotto---gotta be in it to win it.

| Thank You For Your Words Of Wisdom. Since I Am Just Starting How Much Excercise Do You Think I Should Do To Begin. I Have A Treadmill At Home.... |

| do as much as you can. When I started I walked 2mph for 20 min and felt great that I'd been able to do that. Now when I go that slow I walk off the front of the treadmill. You are going to be amazed at how fast you will improve your speed stamina and endurance so don't settle for what you did last week as next weeks goal. When you get in better shape do more. For resistance exercise you can use your body weight and do some sit ups and push ups a few squats ans stuff like that as it gets easier *** some weights in your hands or even join a gym and do some weight lifting. Join the CCEC in this forum or any other exercise challenge that sounds like something you would like to do and then just do it. As to the eating program check the recipe section f you get bored with your foods. Pre plan so you never are not with something legal to eat. READ READ READ the book the food labels so you know before it goes in your mouth if it is legal for your phase and what it has in it. Posting after you ate it a CAN I HAVE THIS topic is too late and the damage to your control is already happeneing if you can't. Drink all that water you need for your size even ifyou think you will drown. you will be amazed at how important water is for weighht loss. READ the FAQ about water and you will be chugging it. Remember this isn't a stuff your face cause it is legal foods program. it is eat as much of the acceptable proteins and fats with your limited carbs as it takes to satisfy your hunger at the time you are eating and stop!!!!! even if you got room in your belly food on the plate or carbs in the budget. You get to eat again as soon as you feel hunger again all day long if that is what your body needs that day. Happy low carbing.

| Welcome to the forum!! I think the hardest part of this way of life (WOL) is the first week or two. If you can make it past that, it's like inertia, the rest is easy!! It really becomes a way of life! Once you learn how to eat on the program, you can go pretty much anywhere and still stick to the program and not feel deprived. Just stick to it the first week - you may start going through a little bit of sugar withdrawal and really crave sugar, but stick to the program and you will start to get so much energy back and feel so good! If you're not down XXX pounds by a certain date, try not to worry about it! It can be good motivation to want to be one weight by a certain date, but if you're not at the exact weight by the date you want to be - don't worry about it, as long as the overall trend is downward, you will still be better off!! Oh that's another thing, the scale will and does fluctuate no matter how good you are doing!! Even if you are losing weight, but you eat something really salty, the scale will say you went up a pound or two, because of water retention. Water makes a huge difference when you're on the scale, you would be surprised!!! But if you are doing things right, exercising, drinking your water, etc., the weight WILL come off!!! You will be so glad you started when you did. This is the best way to lose weight - sometimes it seems almost too good to be true! Just remember to ask for help when you need it and learn as much information about the program as you can, knowledge is power! In addition to exercising, if you find little ways to increase your activity level I think that helps a lot too. Like dancing around in the kitchen while your food is cooking, taking the stairs, parking farther away etc... it all adds up! You'll do great! |

| Just keep locked in your head that you can do this. Also, I hear about so many people who think that it is just going to fall off and be a walk in the park. Understand that often what you are doing is trying to change a habit you have carried most (if not all) of your life. This is going to take a lot of effort and a ton of focus. You are going to have to keep your conscious engaged all the time so that you don't 'graze' on illegal goodies and such. Drink your water and start getting your exercise. Don't be ashamed or discouraged if you can't do much at first, but by the same token, don't convince yourself that you are doing all you can if you are not. I literally fight off the "I'm too tired to exercise today" demons everyday. Try to increase your exercise gradually as you increase in stamina and you become capable of doing more. Remember to keep your focus. Do a clean induction. Don't cheat. I used to 'sneak eat' but in the end I had to face the fact that the only person who I am cheating is myself. You want to lose this weight; you have made a big first step by throwing yourself out there and admitting you need help. Now you have to do what it takes to get it done. You can do it, and I am here if you need me.

| And remember, this is a WOE/ WOL forever, not just to lose weight. For most of us, especially here in CC, it's those bad carbs and bad eating habits that resulted in us gaining so much weight to begin with. Dr. Atkins developed a plan of eating that not only helps you lose weight, but tunes your body to be more efficient and healthy. Recommendations and advice: - Ask questions here if you're the least bit unsure about something. - Try and go as long as possible without cheating. If you're going to "cheat", make it approved foods instead. - Give up soda and caffeine, switch to straight water as much as possible - Realize your weight loss will not always be linear and that you will have stalls. But be sure to also measure to track your progress. Also note that every one loses weight at different rates, but exercise, water, and not cheating, and eating enough veggies will help. - Take pictures to track your progress, even if no one else but you sees them (but it helps to share them with others). Good luck and hope to hear more from you. This is the best place to be for support. Atkins has changed my life in so many ways, and this is from someone who has tried every other diet out there and has health issues that make losing weight difficult, but it's working (slowly, but it is!).

| One of the things that I know has helped me remain strong and true to this WOL is this board. I come on here at least once a day, I may not post every day (but often do) but I am here, reading up on how people are doing, checking in on the friends I have made here. It is such a great motivator, it is the best support group that I have ever found, I know that I would not be where I'm at without ADBB. Also don't get discouraged if your not losing as fast as you would like. I lost about 15 pounds in my first two weeks, I was super excited. Then the stalls started setting in and the weight loss slowed down, I went months where I only lost 1 or 2 pounds. Through out this frustrating period I stayed committed, I came on here every day, I asked questions, I cut things out and tweeked my menu, I finally did the thing that was right for me, I kicked up my excercise a notch or two or a thousand We are all here for you if you need us, welcome to this WOL, you will never be the same. |
