Question Fitday & pumpkin

OK so I was just running my food thru fitday and when I added a cup of pumpkin I nearly died lol it is giving me huge carbs like 12 is that right. I know I am doing ongoing Maintainance but if Just by following rules I am going over 20 g carbs maybe that what wrong..
My menu for today is 2 boiled eggs for brekky....2 slices roat beef 1 tablespoon cream cheese and 1 cup peppers for lunch...dinner is steak with 1 cup mushrooms and 1 cup pumpkin. But when I run that thru fitday it says I am having 22g carb. What am I doing wrong here??????

I'm a little confused. What stage are you in? There is no ongoing maintenance. There's induction, ongoing weight loss, pre-maintenance and maintenance. Everything but induction is over 20 net grams of carbs. I don't use fitday, but it sounds like they didn't subtract fiber for the pumpkin. If you are in induction, your veggies are fine, no matter what fitday says.

On second thought, you can have a cup of pumpkin measured raw. If you were eating canned pumpkin, it would have over 12 net carbs per cup. A 1/2 cup canned has 6.4 net carbs.

Hi, Wendy

Like Sunny, I am confused. I think that a little refresher course with Dr. Atkins New Diet Revolution is in order.

It does sound like you are going by total carbs, rather than net carbs. Total carbs - fiber = net carbs. I do use Fitday, and have come up with some tips to help make the experience a little easier. Here you go:

Fitday Tips:
this is a pain in the @ss at first. But once you get it done and have some practice, it is really easy.

First - let's make sure you have your Fitday set up to count fiber for you. You do that by going to the left side of the screen and clicking on "Goals". Here, you will set a fiber goal. It doesn't matter which number you pick - mine is set at 1 just so it will count the fiber for me. Now, the grams of fiber show along with the numbers for calories, fat, carbs, and protein. You just subtract fiber from carbs, and that is your net carbs.

OK - #1 most helpful hint: I have almost EVERYTHING entered as a custom food. No kidding, even a lot of my veggies are custom foods. Sometimes the veggies entries aren't hard to find in Fitday, but sometimes it is a nightmare to try to find the simplest thing. For example, eggs... now, that shouldn't be as difficult as Fitday makes it out to be. It is tedious to have to weed through so many possibilities to find what you want. So, I even have eggs entered as a custom food. I went through my kitchen and entered information from the label of every can, bottle, and package that I would ever use, and made custom foods out of them. (See, I told you it was a pain )

If you have a recipe that you eat a lot (like a muffin in a minute or my pumpkin concoction), you go into a day that has no foods entered and put in all of the ingredients. Then, write down the totals for the recipe and enter it as a custom food. Now when I have a Muffin in a Minute, I only have to click on that 1 food, instead of having to enter all of the ingredients separately.

Up until recently, I ate pumpkin daily. I use canned pumpkin. Do you use fresh, or canned? If you use canned, you should enter the pumpkin as a custom food, and use the information from the label.

My particular brand of canned pumpkin (Libby's) has these nutrition facts for 1 cup:
80 calories
1g Fat
18g Carbs
10g Fiber
4g Protein

So, 18g total carbs - 10g fiber = 8g net carbs for 1 CUP of pumpkin. ALWAYS go by the label, if you have one available.

Now go read the book!

Thanks Mitzi...I use fresh pumpkin never even heard of canned pumkin!!! I am doing extended induction so don't really use fitday except someone said maybe run my menu thru and see. That is when I saw the carb count on pumpkin. I have read the book several times over and that is why I was so confused cause it says I can have 1 cup pumpkin during induction. I was just trying to work out why I am having this yo yo effect the last 2 weeks and trying to isolate any problem areas. Thanks again for your input will do as u suggested on fitday and see how it goes.
Hugs

You're welcome, Wendy

So, how long have you been on Extended Induction? You may be experiencing something referred to as PISS - Post Induction Stall Syndrome. This is when your weight loss stops, even though you continue to eat the exact same things that you ate during Induction. Many people (myself included) have broken through this by moving up to Rung 1 and adding more veggies.

Have you tried posting specific menus in the "Review My Menu" forum? Someone may be able to spot something for you. Be sure to include exact amounts of everything you eat and drink. Here is the link: Review My Menu - Atkins Diet

Good Luck!

I really dont know exact amounts except for like my veg and salad and cheese as u dont have to count meat and fat is that ok. I have a rough idea of those things but not exact. Will keep track of whaht I eat next few days and post that see what they can find I can't remember what I ate 2 days ago lol.
