I don't understand why water with a sugarfree flavor pk. with less than a g. of carbs , dosen't count in the water consumption. If I were to simply eat the flavor packet, then consume the water.. I cannot see the difference, to me , it should count. See my thinking on this? I am confused.

Lacey - I have never been on a diet where anything other than pure water counted toward your "water intake" for the day. Your pure water can be bottled, filtered, mineral or spring water but it is pure water - nothing added. The rules of Atkins state (opage 124 of DANDR at the top of the page):

11. Drink at least eight 8-ounce glasses of water each day to hydrate your body, avoid constipation and flush out the by-products of burning fat.

If the sugarfree packet has nothing to add to your water why add it to begin with?

Well This is how I have been able to get my total water consumption down... It has work up to this point, so I am not going to sweat it. I know that i am hydrated. So Yay! firt 32 oz. in... lots more to go. Chug Chug chug all you thirsty challengers!

Not to be argumentative, but this is obviously a topic that has come up in other discussions.. and Is a valid topic among many. this is just a little piece I found.. that i decided to share with all of you...Again, I mean no disrespect, Imagood1. but here it is.


"I don't know why some people even bother to answer these questions because they have no clue. The person above me who says it does count is right on the money. Your body cannot tell if your drinking water mixed with sugar free kool aid. It is just water to the body. Many doctors even consider the juices in fruits you eat to count towards your daily intake so certainly water based drinks to include tea, coffee, diet soda etc etc are 99% water. The only negative to tea and coffee is caffiene can be a diuretic, which causes your body to excrete or void water. But if your drinking it constantly throughout the day, its not a factor. I find the logic of some of the answers ... shaky. For example, if I consumed a piece of chocolate, then drank 8 ounces of water would the 8 ounces of water count towards my 64 per day? Yes? If I chewed on tea leaves, then consumed 8 ounces of water, would the 8 ounces count towards my 64? yes? So explain how mixing tea in water somehow makes it NOT water? Explain how having sugar free kool-aid in water is different than just drinking water with food in your stomach. You really think thats logical? Of course not, water is water is water."

Lacy, when you add those tea leave or that Kool Aid to your water, do you still call it water? Of course not! You call it Kool Aid or tea. Therefore your point that "water is water is water" is true...if it is water. If it is water with Kool Aid or tea in it, then it is Kool Aid or tea.

The coffee and tea examples are perfect to demonstrate this! They are both diuretics, so therefore you might drink a 10 oz mug of "water" aka coffee, but your body recognizes the diuretic and excretes it so you don't benefit from all 10 oz. I believe this board is dedicated to purely water. No doctor is going to tell you that water is anything but water, whereas with coffee, tea and drink mixes they can't positively tell you exactly how much benefit x amount of said drink will be to you.
