Default Depression during induction phase

I just started my second week today and have notice that I am depressed and irritable. My husband really has notice this change in me. Is this normal? I also have only lost 1 pound and have really been sticking to the plan.

Yes! The first few days are going to be some of your hardest days EVER.

This is because your body is crying out for those carbohydrate-drugs, like any junkie.

Yep! We're just junkies! So until your body detoxes, you're going to be moody, irritable, downright ornery, and tired. You might cry, smash a pillow, say something rotten about your husband's tools being left on the step, and you're going to growl.

The good news is that thew worse you feel now, the better you'll feel after a few days!

The greater the bummer, the greater the reward!

Goooooooo reward!

Hang in there! You'll see! It is worth it!

PS. If you question what you're eating, post a menu in the menu section and let's see what you're eating. Some people have extremely low metabolism and lose slowly... others inadvertantl;y are getting more carbs than they realize and are still experiencing blood sugar crashing and need to be more strict!

Yep, yep, yep, what Cleo said.

But I promise you that once you get through the next few days, things will change. One day you will wake up in the morning and have a blast of energy and feel utterly fantastic. A real sense of good will and joy.

Just hang in there and beg the dh for patience.

I remember that I wasn't as much depressed as much as I was just...lost.

Whenever I was stressed out, I'd eat. I'd transfer my negative energy into a cheeseburger and french fries, and after chowing down, I'd feel better. (It was sort of like a distraction to what was REALLY going on.) Now, however, the cheeseburger and french fries that onced eased my stress are not allowed.

So, now when I'm in a foul mood, I make sweet love to my elliptical machine. If you feel yourself starting to feel down, try to BEGIN some sort of exercise (walking, Pilates, Carmen Electra's Aerobic Striptease, ANYTHING) and after 20 minutes your mood will almost always improve.

Funny story: on the fourth day of my very first round of Induction, I went shopping at Wal-Mart. One of the cart collector guys stopped one of those motorized cart pusher things (with five hundred shopping carts attached to it) right behind my car as I was about to back out of my parking space. I actually got out of my car and yelled, "HEY! BUDDY! ARE YOU GOING TO MOVE THIS THING?!?" He looked like he was going to cry, then moved the carts. Poor kid.

i too feel that way after a few days of induction. I also have major headaches in the a.m. when i wake up. I drink at least 100 oz of water a day, so i know it's not dehydration. let us know how you feel. I'm going to keep on at it and journal my emotions. good luck

You'd be surprised on what the symptoms are for the detoxing periods...especially someone who has given up caffiene and sugar. Headaches are a main problem. one thing I noticed is that when I had a headache i would usally take something like excedrin but after looking at the ingredients I found out it had caffeine in it!

I know that feeling...I had it too when I quit smoking...you have to learn how to redirect it. Its like Dr. Phil says, you have to replace it...at least for the time being. I found exercise to be best!

I struggled with depression during induction. I had to really think about it and came to the conclusion that I was actually grieving. I was grieving the loss of my comfort foods. Once I approached it as a grieving process, I was able to move through it and feel great. 42 lbs gone and that feels better than a big platter of nachos any day!

Wow, I'm so glad this forum is here, this is great! I, too, have suffered from Major Depression my whole life and it does seem worse this week (my first week of Induction). I hope it gets better for all of us!
