Hi Tammy!

Welcome aboard! Are you on any medications? Are you testing? Remember Dr. Atkins states your cholesterol may elevate after the first two weeks, which happens on most diets. Then after 4 to 8 weeks it will be MUCH better! For most of us here it just keeps getting better and better as you work your way up the rungs in OWL.

I also know what you mean about eating cause it tastes good. I found it was a pretty easy habit to break though! I used to eat and not even think about it. I think that is why this WOE was so good for me. Writing everything down and finally finding out how wonderful I felt when I DID not over eat was an eye opener!

The thing that seems to help alot of us is www.fitday.com it makes you accountable for everything you eat.

We are here to help you!!! Any questions.........fire away!

I know you can do it!

Hi Tammy and welcome to !!

I agree with what Bren said. I can understand your general concern, but just give it some time. If you look at the various forums and see what our other members have posted, you will see what great results that you derive from this WOE/WOL (Way of eating/Way of Life).

Keep us posted and, again, as Bren stated, if you have any further questions, please fire away!!

Tammy of the plus side, I have diabetes and after 3 weeks on the atkins Doc took me off ALL meds! MY husband's BP Meds and Choleserol meds have been reduced and soon will be off them. Both of us, because of the atkins. Good Luck

I am also Type 2, have been for 21 years. I find that when I am really hungry and have eaten recently, it is because my blood sugar is high. When your blood sugar is high, your body can't access it to use for energy because insulin is not transporting it to the cells. I also find that a high fat diet (70-80%) is very helpful in keeping blood sugars low and keeping hunger at bay. High fat/low carb (5-10%) will lower the triglycerides within about 3-6 months. At least, this is what I have found in my case, YMMV.

Hi Tammy,
A couple of things you might want to consider in your plan for Life:
1) High Glycemic Carbs will make you HUNGRY!
2) HGC will keep your Sugar elevated...AND you Cholesterol

For me, Atkins can be difficult to get your arms around. I had to back into it.

Of course, Induction is the preferred way! It totally eliminates your hunger and clears your head.

You can tackle the appetite beast one meal at a time, that is how I started off......before I was diagnosed Type II.

We all have to find our own way but I had to rethink omelets, quiche, frittatas.
because I would prefer to eat Mexican food and Italian ALL the time I had to transform the above for Breakfast and Lunch.

Work on Breakfast first. Then pick up Lunch. This is serious, so you need to get your head around it. Eat reasonable portions for supper, what ever you want. NO seconds, NO left overs! That is the only way to kill the beast; no left-overs means you can NOT go grab the rest of the stuff in a weak moment.

Do that for two weeks, Breakfast the first week, then Breakfast and Lunch the second week.

The Third week add Supper and you're there. Reasonably painless, not induction, but there non-the-less.

Eliminate Sugar and Flour that third week.

So, you are keeping your Protein higher than your carbs and keeping your carbs LOW on the Glycemic Index. Eat cheese sticks for snacks. Be willing to cook up some onions and peppers for your omletes. That way you got a fairly quick meal or snack when that Beast shoves you back into submission.

I've also had to realize there is Good and Evil in this thing. What is killing me is my weight. That is Evil, everything connected to it is Evil. Everytime I grab a cheese stick or tuna salad I am WINNING. I am a person who has to WIN, so that motivates me.

This whole thing is fought in the head and heart, then on the plate. Eat a cheese stick while you fight the battle in your head.

You just have to keep pushing forward even if you get off, you don't go crazy, you keep pushing forward.

Sorry if that is TMI but I am totally in the forest with this Beast and it is all I can think about.

I also found that my body responds very well to a high fat diet. I just seem to get better BS control when I have plenty of fat in my diet.
