Default Exercise question for diabetic "shape"

OK, I've been told that I have a "diabetic" shape by my Dr. and that any exercise will help by losing weight. I'm losing, but not fast enough for me in the waist area! Those of you who are diabetic too, did you do anything special for your waist area? I had to buy new black pants for a funeral and had to try on 18, 16 and 14's in 3 diff styles to find one cut that looked good. The 18's and 16's looked like I was wearing some big persons clothes, but they were comfy (maybe a little lose) in the waist, but huge in the butt, hips and legs. I finally found a 14 that's just a tad tight in the waist ( not uncomfortably so though) but look great everywhere else. The clerk had struck up a conversation with me, because I was bringing the same pants back in time and time again, just a diff size, so on the last go round I "modeled" for her and we decided on the 14 that was a tad tight, but looks very nice on. I just hate pants that leave you a pooch over your waist band! SO.....I have to wear a shirt that isn't tucked, but they look nice and I don't have to worry about looking sloppy in the butt, hip, leg area. Can anyone give me an idea of a workout that concentrates on the waist specifically the lower ribcage, upper abd area? This is what the diabetes Dr called my insulin resistant waist!

walking is excellent for tummy size. You need to burn up fat everywhere. We don't spot reduce through exercise if we did tennis players would have less fat in the game arm but tests were done on that exact premise and there was no sig differenence in arem fat,

You can do all kinds of tummy muscle workout to tighten and firm your muscles and they will get hard under that layer of fat but the fat will still be there. Atkins will assist you in curing your insulin resistance of you follow the plain. Did you doc put you on any insulin sensitizing meds like glucophage?

First of all 2 big what the heck is that symbol in your siggy???
Laura yes it is the symtom of a diabetic. Truncial(sp??) fat they call it.
I have done the follwoing:
1. phsyio showed me how to brace tummy, suck in tight, back straight, hold keigel muscle, do this while driving, sitting as often as can, especially when rolling over or getting up and it makes a difference.
2. weight resstance training is good for diabetics as makes muscle and helps us lower bg and burn fat longer.
3. I used a bow flex machine and did some the tummy crunchers and when was doing them was smaller.
if you wish I will try scAn them and print them hEre as probably could do some of them without a maChine.

i found the tightEning one really effective and phsyio can notIce it when she works on me, it also strenGthens your back.

I've been on avandamet which is a combo drug of avandia and metformin(glucophage) along with my insulin which has officially been reduced now by 150 U a day :yikes I've lost 6 inches off my waist, 3 off my abd, but in the same respect I've lost 5 inches off both my hips & chest and 1 1/2 off ea calf & 2 & 3/4 inch off ea of my thighs-and the girls at work called me bird legs BEFORE I started this WOE--I'm glad its too cold to wear skirts to work or they'd really be harrassing me now!!!! I've been walking or doing the WATP tapes at least 4x/week, try to use my fitness ball -but that's kind of discouraging because I am so darned clumsy so I've been sitting on it when on the puter like you told me in a chat, but have only done the video 3-4 times now.

Canuck-someone on the exercise thread told me to try a denise austin ab workout so I think I'm going to try that before you have go to any trouble of scanning, but let me make sure I have this right about the car (I'm thinking desk at work too!) exercise--put my hand on my tummy to brace, suck it in with back straight and hold keigel muscle which from my experience is in the groin area like you do to strengthen after birth and like starting and stopping urine flow. Then I would assume hold keigel, release, start all over all while holding the tight tummy position?

Thank you!

just think you can do that on your fitness ball too.
that sounds a lot like pilates kissing your spine with your belly button move.

The more you sit and balkance on the ballthe stronger your core ( adomen and back) muscles will get.

LOL, I can do that! Now if I could just sit here long enough to gain some balance I might be ok! I swear I must be logged onto ADBB 12-16 hrs a day and might get an hr board time in since I have cable modem, but I sit, up, down, sit, up, down chase...go run an errand, take/pick CM up from school, cook, throw a load in, more up and downs (lots of taking to the potty trips) & chasing Livi. I just checked and it took me 50 mins to reply to your first post and I started typing as soon as the notify hit my email box. She was eating her snack, so I had a minute, started typing and it was up and down, up and down from there! LOL, She's sleeping now or I wouldn't have this done already!!! When my boys were 2 they were busy, but NOTHING compared to her!!! So far today, we played Dr babies, playdoh, candyland, paint w/water and puzzles. We no more get started and she's ready to go do something else. The only thing I CAN get her to do for any period of time (more than 2-3 mins!) is the paint with water. Thanks for the idea-I had thought about the desk chair at work, but not on the ball!
