| Strange. I thought I would have company in my opinion. Both the preceding and post posts indicated so. Perhaps I am extreme in my resentment that the medical profession is so lacking in integrity as to ignore the success of us diabetics in dealing with this epidemic through the use of Atkins understanding of this problem. I think it is disgusting but am I alone? It seems so. Do you realize how destructive the guidance of the medical association and the politically correct dietitians are? Does anyone care or do we get the medical establishment we deserve by default? |

| Hi, Homeseeker. The 'medical establishment' is a bit of a juggernaut, perhaps many share your opinion but don't have the energy to think of trying to 'stare it down.' My sister was Type I, and I worry about my own risks. I have a friend who lives on Glucerna products and must weigh near 400 lbs. She is always complaining about her glucose levels, and is grouchy and moody all the time. Slowly dying.. you know? And of course she has a doctor who is obviously not helping her all that much. But you are 'being the change you seek in the world,' and spreading the world, I am sure we all do this to the best of our ability.

| I totally agree with you. It makes me soooooo angry that physicians are just throwing diabetic patients into the low-fat diets and giving them meds when what they should be doing is putting them on low carb plans. I was injecting myself up to 4 or more times a day with 2 different types of insulin and taking 2000 MG of Metformin and 4MG of Amaryl a day. The first day I was on Atkins, my blood glucose levels went down and have stayed down. I have not taken a single pill or had to give myself insulin since I started Atkins on 07/22/08. My friend is exactly the same. She didn't have diabetes yet, but was pre-diabetic and of course just immediately put on Metformin and a low fat diet. She hasn't had a high number or taken a pill since being on Atkins. The more successful this WOE is for me, the more resentful I am toward my physician and that she either 1) doesn't know about the effects carbs have on glucose, although she shoudl or 2) doesn't like "low carbing". Anyway, maybe one day the medical community will all realize there are many more successful ways to manage diabetes without having to take any medications and gain weight.

| I've thought about this and now wonder. Is there a difference between the way a D.O. handles diabetes compared to a M.D.? The DOs I have seen are pro low carb. |

You are NOT alone! It isn't economically feasible for this nation to know the truth. There are more LIES than you may realize at this point in your understanding. I posted my thoughts here: http://www.atkinsdietbulletinboard.c...e-angry-2.html (ADA Makes Me Angry!!) |
