| Hello, When I began Atkins just over four years ago, I was Type-2 Diabetic. 48 days into Atkins and on Extended Induction my Type-2 Diabetes disappeared never to return again. Also I chose my veggies lowest on the GI (Glycemic Index). Dr. Atkins explains it on page78-84, 92 DANDR. He describes it as "A beautiful tool". It sure helped reverse my Type-2 Diabetes and accelerated my weightloss. I lost my first 100 pounds in ten months. Also there are supplements that I took then that helped with normalizing glucose levels. Chromium Pic, Alpha-Lopic Acid, Cinnamon (500 mg), Noni Juice(normalizes Glucose levels), Pro-Biotics (for yeast) and Olive Leaf Extract (anti-fungul) Another site to find foods lower on the GI and GL (glycemic load) can be found- Table 1. Glycemic Load Values For All Food Types Glycemic Load of Carb Foods - GI in Food Serving Keep to a strict Induction. And move onto Extended Induction. Keep a close eye on your Glucose numbers, check them often. You will notice them come down gradually. Make sure to keep a record of your glucose levels each day. That's what I did. Only I was on two types of medication and gradually had to reduce the dose untill I had to stop taking them completely. Atkins is a really healing WOE. I contimplated Bypass surgery or the band surgery. I'm glad I tried Atkins first. It helped me lose 145 pounds and keep it off. It reversed my Type-2 Diabetes, Stablized my high blood pressure and brought my blood chemistry to all healthy levels. Work the plan 100% and you'll get 100% results. Wishing you the best of health and lite. Sincerely, Sherri

| I've had typeII for 2 years now and since starting Atkins a month ago, my blood sugar levels have been dropping steadily. I used to test between 7.9 and 8.5mg/dl every morning (142-153 mol/l) and they've been between 6.2 and 6.6 (111 - 118 ) for the last 2 weeks! 2 hours after eating I used to be around 9-10 (162-180) and its around 6.5 (117) after 2 hours. So its steadily reducing and I'm feeling MUCH better! I'm not experiencing the mood swings or headaches that I used to, and have much more energy. I'm going to go get my A1c done in 2 weeks and see what it says. |

| It is good you had blood panel done before starting Atkin for comparison. 3 months would be better for the next test but six weeks should show a lowering of triglycerides and some lowering of A1c . It would be good to have a test meter. It would show how you are doing on fasting glucose day by day. I have type 2 bad. However Atkin has made my blood panel become normal. Cholesterol - 132, triglycerides - 73, A1c - 5.8. Atkin has been great but don't expect too much. In my case I am still very much a diabetic. If I wander off of the Atkin induction my fasting glucose immediately starts to creep up over 100. Even with a significant weight loss I am still a diabetic. Thanks to Atkin I do not need to take meds. Best of luck. |

| Homeseeker, You are so fortunate to be off meds! Sherri, I really appreciate your talking about the low GI indexes, gave me some things to research and think about. |

| As a fellow big man, I would really think about the surgery. Surgery doesn't fix the underlying cause of your weight. You will lose a ton of weight following Atkins. I have 2 people I know well who have done the Lap band, and they both still cheat. One drinks milkshakes from Dairy Queen and has been gaining weight and the other has stretched her band out and had to have more surgery. The point is, it didn't fix the mental piece. The dietician will put you on a low fat diet, just like these two were on, and they lost a tiny bit of weight. The post surgery diet is miserable. There is pain, risk of infection, and if you don't eat correctly, malnutrition is a VERY real possibility. Look at the success figures for bypass patients. It's not all that great. I took this from a gastric bypass site: Gastric Bypass Risks:*
