thanks ziggy -- mom has anxiety and panic problems -- which are manifesting into stomach problems now. The doctor gave her a new prescription for nausea medicine which seems to be helping. She has had a panic disorder all my life but until a few years ago no one actually said the words "panic"- when she was younger she was on some type of medicine for a short while that would literally put her to sleep for several hours...I guess that is how they dealt with it in the 50's and 60's. Now she takes medicine that calms her and within a few minutes she feels fine.

Edited to add: I forgot to add that for years I dealt with panic attacks and anxiety also -- I've learned to deal with mine and rarely have any problems now.

One of her hearing aids stopped working Monday - I take her this morning to have it fixed. She's only had them since February so they are still under warranty.

it seems strange not to test my blood twice a day -- I have been doing that for so long. The doctor said the other day to only test 3 times a week....more if I felt I needed to but if not just 3 times. So I have decided to test Monday, Wednesday and Fridays before breakfast. My evening numbers are normally low but the morning numbers are a little higher so those are the ones I am interested in.

I made scrambled eggs in a large skillet this morning so they looked more like a crepe -- then I topped it with cheese and about a 1/2 tsp of french onion dip and had a turkey sausage with it. water and coffee w/splenda

lunch was a Nathan's hot dog cut up in fried cabbage and 1 deviled egg (2 halves) and water.

afternoon I had a flax cookie and sunflower seeds, water and coffee w/splenda

dinner: NY Strip steak, salad w/Ranch dressing and "loaded" cauliflower. water.

My totals for the day were 65/29/6 - 22.4 carbs - pretty good!!

Another week has come and gone -- I decided to up my good fat intake this week to hopefully get some weight moving again.....I had half an avocado for lunch along with fried cabbage and steak stir fried. It was a good lunch - I love avocados!!

After lunch I put 4 tsp coconut oil, 1/2 tsp dark chocolate cocoa, 1 pkt of splenda and 1/2 cap of vanilla extract -- mixed it all together put it on a piece of wax paper with a baking sheet under it - made sure it was very thin and put it in the freezer for about 20 minutes....it tasted like Brach's chocolate covered coconut candies in the Pick-A-Mix boxes at the grocery store. I'll do that again. It is a good way to get the fats up!

I made kebabs for dinner tonight. Pork tenderloin marinaded in oil & spices with grape tomatoes, vadalia and red onion, yellow, red and green onions....YUM!!! We had these last weekend also and I decided they were so good (and sooo Atkins friendly) it was something we should have again! My pan looks horrible, so it's now clean!! How embarrasing!!! I ate 1 - the hubs had 2 and there is 1 left -- probably for my lunch tomorrow.

Mom has her eye surgery in the morning (have to be there at 6:30 a.m.) and I need to have blood work done so I made a mock danish to take with me for breakfast after I finish the blood work. I just had a scare...I couldn't find my paperwork for the blood work ..... mom and I looked for 15 minutes before we found it...sitting right in front of me!! It was folded so I didn't see it. It is now in my purse along with mom's ID and insurance cards. We are ready to go...as soon as the sun comes up!! lol

I checked my blood before dinner because my vision was a little blury -- it was 82 -- still good numbers. It's still odd not to check twice a day!

My totals today: Calories 1518/carbs 27.3
fat/protein/carbs: 57/35/7

Default Re: My name is Carole and I have Type 2 diabetes

Last night I made an egg/cream cheese, vanilla, pinch of nutmeg "mock danish" and took it in a baggie this morning when I went to the hospital and lab. I also put 3 slices of bacon in a baggie (after I cooked it) and ate that with it....

After dinner last night I decided I needed to find a recipe I could make and take with me this morning because I didn't think cold scrambled eggs sounded good. I was so happy that the mock danish was good because it was a lifesaver. I got up at 5:00 a.m. - took mom to the hospital and was at the lab at 6:35 - then back to the hospital by 7:00. The doctor was ready an hour early (mom was the 1st surgery for him this morning) and her eye was dialated so they took her early and we were home by 10:00.

We both laid down later this morning because it was a rough morning. When I got up and after I had lunch I rode 25 miles on the bike. I needed something that would put me back in the minute and that did the trick. I did extra ab work today -- upping what I did last week by a few reps - pretty tough but I made it!! It will be easier next time.

I'm glad the stress of all this with mom is over -- it takes a toll on me. I hope they don't find anything wrong tomorrow when the patch comes off her eye. The surgeon said everything went well this morning and she had no problems since we came home so I'm sure everything is ok.

We have had horrible storms all day -- I'm hoping they are done for the evening now. We are suppose to have rain again tomorrow and Wednesday. The garden is really growing and looks good thanks in part to all the rain. I'm planning to pull radishes and green onions by the end of the week.

Tomorrow is another low carb day.

Hi Carole, I am still trying desparately to lose something. I have been on hold at 232 since March. My sugars are absolutely perfect now. Down from 250 or so to 90-100. I am so thankful that my age I can control my sugar. I wish it was as easy to lose weight. I keep a very good record of all my food and keep within the 20 carb, 65% fat and 30 protein as close as I can. Yesterday I walked 2 miles which is quite a distance for me. We walked the farm at Shelburne farms. I talked to the animals LOL, the weather is rainy today so I just kick around. I tried OWL and every time I added the veggies my ketosis went blank. I have been in ketosis since I started in January. I went back to 20 carbs and I am back in the purple, (moderate). This board has really kept me on course with my diet and I often think of cheating but it would be a waste of all the time I have spent trying to get somewhere on Atkins. I started the water challenge and I drink the required plain water and only 1 waist watchers soda with 1/2 teaspoon of cream once in a while. ( taste like I am cheating )

Keep up the good work and I hope to join the crowd with a loss soon.

Sweenten09,
The Keto stick isn't all that important. Mine only turns purple in the middle of the night and only once was it dark. I'd look for other problems if I were you. What is the waist watchers soda?

Have you tried the spit test to see if you have a candida problem? That kept me at 230 for years.

Audrey - just because the keotsis sticks aren't showing any color doesn't mean you aren't in keotsis --- I haven't shown a color since February but I almost always loose about a pound a week. The amount of color doesn't mean anything --- you are either in or not in keotsis -- color is of no consequence. I wish that was explained more clearly in the book because so many people are so excited they are showing purple because that means they are deep into keotsis....NOPE that means you are dehydrated more than anything....like I said I haven't shown color for so long I threw the sticks away and decided they were making me a little goofy!

I'll tell you what I did when I hadn't lost any weight in quite awhile...I was ask to join a new group (at the time - not new group now) called stallbusters -- what we did was we went back to induction and started over. The first time I was on induction I lost 12 pounds -- when I went back with stallbusters I lost 6 pounds BUT it really didn't do much else for me because I was loosing about a pound before and I'm loosing about a pound a week since. Because you do take insulin (even if on occassion now) that will make it harder for you to loose weight -- insulin makes it harder than just taking pills. My endocrinologist wanted to put me on a shot a night about 6 months ago but I ask if I could try to get my sugars under control by myself first -- reluctantly at the time she agreed to let me - when I saw her last week (first time since we had that talk) she was pleasantly surprised. I had lost 12 pounds since I had seen her and my numbers were under control. I hope you can keep your sugar under control enough not to have to take the insulin anymore!!

One question, how often do you drink the soda? Is it make with Splenda or aspartame? Even 1 soda will make me pay for a few days with higher sugars and even no loss for the week, just wondered if that might have something to do with you also. As far as the cream I have some every once in awhile -- I whip it up and eat it out of the bowl like ice cream when I really want something sweet.....just a little makes such a hugh difference! Good luck!

I looked up Waist Watchers soda -- it sounds a lot like Diet Rite - it's made with Splenda, caffeine and sodium free. When you drink one do your fingers and feet swell? That's the problem I have with any type of soda so I was just wondering. Usually within a couple hours (and certainly the next day) I can't get my rings off and my watch make a indentation in my arm where it sits. Just things I am thinking of as I'm sitting here wondering what could be going on with you.

Carole, I drink 1 soda a day, WW. I put a few drops of cream in my soda to make it like a dessert. Yesterday I dropped my carb count to really low, and raised my fat and protein count to a higher percentage. I have kept all my records on fitday. I also walked two miles and did not take a nap during the day. My blood sugars dropped to 100-109 and that is the lowest I have been in the AM for a long long time. My weight dropped 1/2 pound yesterday and it seem to have stayed there today. I hope for at least 1/2 pound a week and that will keep me happy.
