| Carole, I am so sorry that your levels have increased. Since I have been there, I can only tell you to keep up your Atkins. All of my stats have dropped drastically with the diet. I may not be eating everything I should such as a lot of veggies, but I think after 5 months on the diet, I have come to a comfortable place with the diet. That is because my carbs are substantially lower than maybe an average person or a younger person would have. I feel my weight is not as important as my diabetes being under control. I recently had blood test to check my colesterol and they were below the average. 169/80, Doctor was pleased but kept me on my colesterol meds which I get for $4.00 for 100 at our grocery store pharmacy. You are still an inspiration to me. Losing and sticking to the diet might need some tweaky with meds. Don't get discouraged, keep on the water challenge, it has really helped me stay on course.

| I don't think what you saw in numbers are that unusual. I am not at all an expert here. I have read a bit about it. Here are a couple of blogs by Jimmy Moore whose doctor wanted to put him on Statin. | I'm taking Crestor now -- along with 4 Lovaza a day (fish oil pills) -- the doctor isn't happy a bit that my numbers are up that much. I was just hoping to blow the numbers away since I've been eating so healthy. I just couldn't believe when I saw the numbers and the total cholesterol and LDL were up that much higher. I'm going to do things differently starting Monday -- I'm just too tired today.

| I'm going back down the rungs - making sure I'm not eating too much meat (thinking maybe my portions were too large and maybe too much red meat lately) - will see if any of this helps....actually Liv I don't know what to do. I know I need to get the doctor off my back about this before he prescribes something else that I don't need or want to take. SallySeaChange told me to talk to ttdriver about the change in my numbers because she has information that may help me. I'm going to send her a PM and ask for her help. I just had my hopes up too high and when the numbers weren't good it just deflated me. I just need some help getting this straightened out in my mind and for my body. Thank you for being there!

| I took the day off today -- no exercise, my eating has been lax since Friday. This afternoon I was doing laundry and felt my legs getting rubbery, had "that" strange feeling so I checked my blood and it was 64 - way too low for me. I had eaten a good lunch about an hour and a half before that happened, so I don't know what happened. Will have to watch to see what happens tomorrow.

| Carole, I get really shaken up when my sugar gets that low. I have sugar pills which I used to take but now I will take a tablespoon of peanut butter. It has a little sugar in it but not on the early rungs. I usually have low bs at bedtime and make all my insulin decisions at that point. If my bs is below 100 I do not take insulin. If it is between 100 and 110, I will give myself a very small amount because my sugars will esculate during the night. The first time my sugar went to 60, the doctor said it was because of the adrenalin that I was producing at the level. Eating anything will bring it back up quickly. Glass of tomato juice or a small glass of milk. Problem is we try so hard and hope for results and some times we have to let it take its course with the diet. My Insulin has been reduced from 35U to 24U and almost obsolete. My glyburide has been reduced to 1/2 before dinner from 2. My Metformin is reduced to 1000 am and 500 pm. I am trying to adjust everything so I can eliminate the insulin for good. When I walk, my bs comes down, so I guess the exercise is helping me alot. Take care and stay on course.

Hi Carole this link explains alot about Cholestoral taken from that link However, if the cells are making their own cholesterol, LDL particles are still circulating in the blood and can build up over time. So it follows that what we want is the cells to use circulating cholesterol and NOT make their own. In order to do this we must find out what regulates this process. Cellular Cholesterol production is regulated by…… Insulin and glucagon. When we have lower insulin and higher glucagon levels, we have low cholesterol manufacture and more serum cholesterol being used – happy days This is because insulin triggers the enzyme that causes your cells to produce its own cholesterol whereas glucagon inhibits this same enzyme. When we have chronically high insulin levels we have low glucagon levels and more cholesterol manufacture. Consequently we will have less serum cholesterol leaving the bloodstream. So, what kind of diet produces low, steady levels of insulin and higher glucagon levels? Why a low carb one of course. anyways you can read it full at that link its explained better there xD so ya like you said maybe going lower on the Rungs and eating a little less protein could help lower your insulin hope this helps take care |
