Hi Carole this link explains alot about Cholestoral
taken from that link

However, if the cells are making their own cholesterol, LDL particles are still circulating in the blood and can build up over time.

So it follows that what we want is the cells to use circulating cholesterol and NOT make their own. In order to do this we must find out what regulates this process.

Cellular Cholesterol production is regulated by……

Insulin and glucagon.

When we have lower insulin and higher glucagon levels, we have low cholesterol manufacture and more serum cholesterol being used – happy days

This is because insulin triggers the enzyme that causes your cells to produce its own cholesterol whereas glucagon inhibits this same enzyme.

When we have chronically high insulin levels we have low glucagon levels and more cholesterol manufacture. Consequently we will have less serum cholesterol leaving the bloodstream.

So, what kind of diet produces low, steady levels of insulin and higher glucagon levels? Why a low carb one of course.

anyways you can read it full at that link its explained better there xD

so ya like you said maybe going lower on the Rungs and eating a little less protein could help lower your insulin

hope this helps take care

Thank you ziggy. It took me a couple days to come to terms with what I am going to do but I'm sticking with Atkins because I truly feel it works for me. I have gone back to rung 1 but officially (on my name info area) I have rung 3 -- in case I want nuts on top of my salad some day -- or some yogurt. I'm going to stay with rung 1 mostly but this gives me a little more leeway.

I took the weekend to really think about everything and at the same time I ate a little differently than I should have...yea stupid I know!! I didn't measure anything I just ate....but all was not lost...I'm ok with the scale this morning - just still a little sluggish from over eating.

Since I'm back down on the rungs I'm also going to eat less protein and see if that helps get my numbers back down to where they were before I started Atkins. Like I said before, it was just such a kick in the stomach that the numbers were so much higher. I also through taking 4gm of Fish Oil pills (Lovaza) daily would have brought my triglicerides down more than it did but that could also be part of the higher numbers also.

Ok - enough .... I'll be fine. I read the article you sent plus a couple others on the site - interesting and informative - thank you! I appreciate you taking the time to help make me feel better!

ok -- it's Monday so it was a day to check my blood sugars:

fasting 102
evening 92

I've been a little "off" all day -- not really lightheaded but I don't feel right either. My numbers were ok so it wasn't that but I've had that fuzzy eyes & trouble with equilibrium might be off a little. Maybe I'm catching a summer cold or something - who knows. I'll take it easy tomorrow.

hi Carole im glad i made you feel better and heres a tip when takeing Fish Oil pills sometimes they can go rancid so to test there freshness bite into the gelatin or what type of pill its in and if it tastes like gelatin/fish oil and tastes decent nothing gross then its fine but if it tastes really nasty then its rancid i think you only need to test a few pills to know if the rest are good

also this 4gm of Fish Oil pills (Lovaza) i looked up Lovaza

Lovaza - Medpedia

look at that link it doesnt sound like normal omega-3 fish oil but i could be wrong

also is there any added vitamin A or D in Lovaza? when i first got cod liver oil i didnt know it had so much vitamin A and D in it and i must have overdosed on the vitamins cause i did not feel to good after takeing to much

but normally only cod liver oil has super high vitamin A & D and not normal fish oil

and ya if you got a summer cold they can do all sorts of nasty things i actually have just gotten over one well was over the cold part awhile ago but just recently got over the left over infection part xD anyways take care

I have been taking prescription Lovaza for about 4 years (maybe more I don't remember) -- I take 4 1GM each pills daily -- 2 in the morning and 2 at bedtime. I've never had any of them go rancid -- I get the bottles directly from the pharmacy with the expiration dates on them -- the last 2 bottles I received had expiration dates of 90 or more day out from the day I received them....I get 2 bottles per month when they are refilled. The doctor has changed from Omacor (generic) to only Lovaza and since I've gone back to the brand name my numbers have gone down - not much but they have gone down.

This is from the link you sent:

How Lovaza Is Taken

Lovaza is available in one gram capsules. The dosage is four capsules taken daily, either all at once or split into two doses of two capsules. Each one gram capsule contains 465 mg of eicosapentaenoic acid (EPA) and 375 mg docosanexaenoic acid (DHA).

Default Re: My name is Carole and I have Type 2 diabetes

wow - didn't realize I hadn't been here in awhile. Still plugging along. I've relost the 3 pounds I gained a couple weeks ago in my stupidity. Today is Father's Day. Happy Father's Day to all the men here! Hope you are having a wonderful day.

I'm looking at a new recumbent bike - I have bruised my tailbone on the upright bike I have and the chain slips when I go over 18 miles an hour so it's time to get something different. I have a nice little area set up in the family room downstairs now for my exercise area. The stepper and upright bike are there and I have an area where my dumbbells are so I can stand and do some weight training. My dumbbells are 2, 5 and 8 pound bells. It's also close to the TV and I have an open area large enough to follow the exercise DVD's and not have to move furniture. Much nicer (and cooler) than the bedroom where I was cramped and the stepper didn't fit.

This morning at 10:00 I went out and mowed, trimmed and swept up. The lawn really looks nice, but with the heat advisory that we're under until at least Thursday the lawn is really going to take a beating. If it doesn't rain I'll have to water the lawn to keep the grass from dying. It's a never ending cycle!!

Yesterday I spent the entire day doing my "late" Spring cleaning....I didn't get it done during Spring so I was "late"!! The onlly thing I didn't get done was clean the bathroom downstairs and moping the master bathroom floor. Mom cleaned her bedroom and bathroom yesterday so those were 2 rooms I didn't have to do! Everything looks so nice now.

We're taking Greg out for his Father's Day dinner later today. We're going to an asian restaurant but they have Mongolian bar-b-que .... where you put what you want to eat in a bowl and they cook it for you -- that way I can eat only the food I know are good for me and not have to take breading off of anything or wonder what spices and "extras" are on the food....they don't add anything to the bowl! That makes it nice for me. I'll have hot tea and water to go with my meal.

I still have a hard time not taking my blood sugar readings on a daily basis - after a year of doing something it's hard to stop! Everything is doing well and my numbers are good.

well, since we went out to Emperor's Palace for Father's Day I wanted to check and see if I'd done any "damage" in my eating. I stayed with the Mongolian Bar-B-Que because the only thing that went into the bowl was my decision including spices and seasonings. We ate around 4:30 and it's not almost 7:00 -- my blood sugar was 94 so I am confident that I ate sensibly. There were a lot of temptations with all the different stations of Asian foods but I stayed strong!

Happy Father's Day!!

Good for you! Eating out can be such a pitfall. I always ask about carb content (my family is getting used to it) and sometimes I feel like I am getting lip service. When I feel like that, I just ask for simple chicken or steak with fresh veggies and a salad. Not very exciting... but the weight loss is

I have gotten to the point where I ask for chicken with pepper only on top or steak with pepper only. As far as salad I take my own dressing and dip my salad into the dressing instead of pouring it on top -- that way each bite of salad has dressing and I don't use nearly as much! I also ask if their fresh veggies have carrots to leave them in the kitchen and add a few of the "other" fresh veggies in their place. I don't mind eating out because I know I can control my meals (pretty much) and as long as they keep the water coming I'm happy with my drink!! I have ordered decaf a couple times but really prefer what I drink at home over the way too strong decaf in restaurants.

It looks like you are doing real well, just don't stay on induction too long, the Rung system was put in place for us to use, not to shy away from. Keep up the great work!!

Today was one of my 3 times a week to check my blood sugar.

Fasting: 115 (didn't take my morning meds until 4:30)
pre dinner: 90
post dinner: 82

It is so hot here and has been the past few days and I'm really feeling it. I am still riding my bike (bruised tailbone and all!!) and added a new exercise video today -- it really kicked my butt - and is exactly what I need.

I try to increase my carbs to Rung 1 but each time I add something extra like a extra cup of salad or 1 cup instead of 1/2 of veggies, My blood sugar increases. Yes, I put salt on everthing and do see the water retention with all the increase in water I am taking. I will try to reduce the salt. I make my own salad dressing with Olive oil and vinagar. I do have my limit of cream and cheese. I make a egg shake with vinalla and splenda at night to bring my %'s up. My daily % are always pretty much with in the levels they should be. I have reduced the carbs to about 10-15%

I am still pushing myself to exercise. Since the weather in Vermont has been so awful, I find it hard to get out. I do have a walking CD which my Husband and I can do together. We have to do it more.

My Blood Sugar this AM was 120, PM it is usually 90-100. I still have to have insulin at night but my metformin and glyburide has been reduced. The doctor took me off the tykosyn (a heart medicine for A-fib) I was hoping it would be one of the meds which has kept me in this stall. We'll see, it has only been 2 days.

Have a great day, weather is changing here and will bump up my spirits.
