Hi Audrey -- if you are loosing inches and your clothes fit better you are farther along than by loosing weight and not seeing any change in your clothes.

Yesterday my fasting blood sugar was 123 today it was 134. I just checked my meter and my averages are:

7 day average - 113
14 day average -101
21 day average - 98
28 day average - 98
60 day average - 97
90 day average - 99

I'm not thrilled with my daily numbers but when you look at my averages they are good. According to the Blood Sugar Management A1C Chart my A1C would be 5.0. I have another month before I'm suppose to have blood work done again since my triglicerides were higher this last time I had blood work done (it's good to know the $50.00 a month in Omacor is doing it's job [NOT]).

I may wait until the end of September since I see the endocrinologist Oct 1 and the Internist December 15...no use in rushing to get blood work done that no one is going to look at for a copule months.

I will beat them!!

Hi Carole, I just found this thread and would love to join you here. I am also a type 2 diabetic diagnosed a yr ago. I have been on metformin 5oomg twice aday since July of last year. I stopped checking it and eating everything i seen last winter and continued until a few weeks ago I checked my glucose and it was in a danger zone...that did it for me..Back to Dr Atkins and a reality check. I am slowly getting the BG back to a reasonable reading and following the Atkins plan again. This time I it has to be for good..

It is like a miracle that this diet works for diabetics. My sugar average is 104 for 60 days and my A1C went from 7.6 to 5.3 and the doctor was so impressed. I told him only that I was on a low, low carb diet. Most MD's don't like Atkins. I have never figured that one out.

Carole, I am going to be on vacation from July 20 - July 28. Going to go to Cape Cod and try to get some sun. I have planned most of my lunches and hope that my Husband and I can keep legal at night. Lobster, clams, shrimp etc. Lots of salad.
Yum, Yum. I will be drinking lots of water and will chart it along with my bs every day. I freeze two bottles and keep one to drink. the frozen bottles keep my beach lunch cold (tuna, salmon with mayo)

Wish me luck, I hope to come back 2 pounds thinner with all the exercise I will be getting walking along the beach(I tan great). My best to all, Audrey

It sounds like you're going to have a wonderful time Audrey -- my best wishes for you and your husband with eating, exercising and loosing! I'd love to get away for a few days but hopefully next year!

Hilda join in anytime you want I love having people stop! I know what you mean about this time it has to be for good...I feel that same way - this can't be a short term loose a few and gain them back type of plan for me, I'm getting too old be take the weight off. When I was in my 20's and 30's I was like so many others on the plan who post. The pounds would fall off with little effort, but that was before I was diagnosed with any health problems - I was on so many fad diets as well as the big name diets (WW, Jenny Craig, Nutri-System) if I had the money I've wasted trying to loose I'd have quite a nest egg now.

This morning wasn't good for readings - I was 132 but at 6:30 tonight I was down to 88. I rode my bike 20 miles this morning before lunch - hadn't really been on it for a few days so the top of my thighs were burning when I finished. The muscles are really showing in my legs again - I've always had muscular legs because I rode my bike from sunup to sundown as a kid - I was rarely home (except to eat) and then I was asking to go somewhere else.

I'm feeling more like the "old me" -- pre-accident today. I'm having a sinus attack but hopefully when I take the other 2 Aleve when I go to bed (I take 4 a day per doctor for shoulder pain) and when I wake up the headache part will be gone. Sherri suggested Olive Leaf Extract - I'll have to check that out if thsi continues.

My food has been good today but I haven't been hungry so I'm hoping keotsis is back. I'll check tomorrow.

Breakfast was 1 egg, 1/2oz of colored peppers, 1 ounce of cheddar cheese and 1 Tbsp salsa.

Lunch was 2oz tuna salad wrapped in a lettuce leaf and 3oz grape tomatoes from the garden (they were especially delicious!!)

Dinner was fried radish hash (radishes, onion and canned corned beef), 1/2 c broccoli cooked with butter and 1 cup salad w/1Tbsp Hidden Valley Ranch dressing.

I'm going to make a flax cookie later - when I eat something close to bedtime my blood sugar is lower in the morning. Enjoy yourselves, eat well and stay on plan! (I'm trying to!!!)

Default Re: My name is Carole and I have Type 2 diabetes

Today was practically identical to yesterday. Sinus problems still today (I finally broke down and took 2 of my sinus pills) so I got the hubs up for work and put myself back to bed.

I took my blood sugar (fasting) around 10:30 this morning -- it was 132 (same as yesterday -- probably because I still don't feel real well) -- dinner time the reading was 82 (just under yesterday).

I preach not to do this but because I got up so late I didn't have breakfast -- I had lunch a little earlier than normal so maybe it's "brunch".

Taco salad for lunch -- 2 cups lettuce, 2oz cheddar cheese, 2oz taco meat, 3 grape tomatoes from the garden and 1 Tbsp taco sauce on top. I love this lunch!!

I had a slice of roast beef deli meat during the afternoon (still not too hungry).

Dinner: 3oz Roast Beef, 1/2 c Spinach w/vinegar and 2 oz leftover broccoli.

I didn't have a flax cookie the other night so I'm thinking of having one tonight!! A little treat.

Carole I hope you are feeling better soon, I know what the sinus infections are like and hate them.
Well my BG this morning was 7.3/132. This is a pretty good reading since there were a whole lot higher before I got back to this site. The Atkins is the only way to help keep them down for me. During the day I am getting a lot more readings in the 6.2-6.8/112 to 123.
WEll off to do my walk..doing my walk to Rivendell again..http://www.barrowdowns.com/walktorivendell.php..I thought may I should find some place to go to for these walks..

I was doing one to my daughters house as well ..she is about1200 miles from here.

Default Re: My name is Carole and I have Type 2 diabetes

Better day today....my sinus' have settled down so, of course, I decided to go mow the lawn - I only sneezed a couple times so that's not bad.

After I ate breakfast (forgot to test before) I was pleasantly surprised that my number was much lower today -- 109 .. that's more in line to what it should be (and has been for awhile). I test later on weekends because I get to sleep in (yea!!) so it's normally a little higher on weekends when I take my fasting blood sugar.

I going to do the Zumba basics video today -- I just got it from a friend yesterday (it's a 4 video set) so we'll see how it goes. I'm trying to find another video to do other than Jillian's 30 Day Shred.

I weigh on Monday so we'll see if I've gotten some of the weight I gained back while in the hospital overnight and a bad eating weekend after that. I don't show color on the sticks (never have) because of the amount of water I drink so I can't check them but I'm getting a couple other pieces of evidence that I'm back in keotsis. I'll move back into the Rungs on Monday because I can't see staying on induction any longer if I've lost any weight...I want to get back to where I was again!!

Has anyone had any lows they've had problems getting back up lately? What did you do to get your blood sugar back up without eating a sugary food or drink?

Ok, I'm off to do Zumba!!! I'll let you know how I do!! Have a great Atkins weekend.

Since I went back down into indiction on Monday (to get back in keotsis) I've been taking my blood sugars more than the 3 times a week the doctor said I could go down to the last time I was there.

7/15 - fasting: 123 / 6:30 - 88
7/16 - fasting: 123 / 6:15 - 84
7/18 - fasting: 109 / 4:30 - 87
7/19 - fasting: 109 / 5:30 - 76

I have felt today I'm really back in keotsis (finally). Tomorrow morning I'll get on the scale and see where I start.

I will also start back exercising in ernest.

imagood1 your readings sure look good. I am still getting a high reading for my FG
here is this weeks
July 13 Fg 8.2/148
14--8.7/157
15--7.4/133
16--8.1/146
17--7.7/139
18--7.3/132
19--8.1/146

Of course the ones through out the day are 6.4/115-6.8/123 these are acceptable levels..I will have to ask my Dr when I go in Oct for my heart test etc about it then...
I have tried to find out what I could eat before bed that might adjust that but can't find any ideas..I did my 3 am reading the other day and it was 6.6/119 so it must be a dawnphenomen problem

How many times a day do you test your blood glucose? I only had to check 3 times a day to begin with (breakfast/midafternoon/before bed) then after my A1C went to around 8.0 they changed it to twice a day (breakfast/before dinner). Now I take it twice a day 3 times a week.

I started months ago, when my numbers were still high in the morning, to eat something, a couple pieces of deli meat, an ounce of red/yellow pepper strips - something about an hour before I do to bed. Since I started that my morning numbers have gone down.
