Default so discouraged

Well! I almost gave up the program today. My weight is not moving and I have gotten the new Atkins book and have read it over twice.

I am thankful that my blood sugars have become stable and this diet has given me the inspiration to exercise by walking more each day (when the weather is good)

I had a cat scan today to see what they can do about my shoulder which has become very painful. I hope it is not a serious, I get discouraged when I go through any health problems

I guess I will give it more time. I have been very good about my diet and kept track on fitday. I have reduced my carbs abit and I lost 1.5 pounds in the last 4 weeks. Each day I get up and weight myself to keep my interest in the diet.

No Atkin products, very little splenda, no diet soda and drinking much more water than I did before. (thanks to the June water challenge).

Thank you for listening to my complaints and for all the support from the board I have gotten. Audrey

hi Audrey -- I'm going through about the same thing. I can't remember when the scale moved in the right direction....I gained a couple pounds last week and am hoping to get them back off again. It is very disheartening when it seems everyone around us is loosing weight - large amounts and we're struggling to loose ounces!

Don't give up - I still think if you eat more veggies and up your carbs a little you'll do better than you are now - but that's your decision.

I'm so proud of you with your water intake! I can always count on seeing your name and your daily total when I go to chart the day. Now that you've been doing this isn't it much easier than in the beginning to get all your water in? I honestly can't imagine not drinking my water everyday now.

Keep up the great work -- I hope they find out what's wrong with your shoulder. I had an MRI the first of the year and was told I need roter cuff surgery -- I'm trying to hold out and not get it done for awhile - there is just so much going on between my husband and mom. I'm the only driver in the family so when they have doctor appointments I'm the one that takes them - once we've gotten through all the appointments this year I'll make an appointment.

Take care.

Dear Carole, thank you for your response. Although this program is not going as fast as I want, it has helped my life as a diabetic. With all the problems I have, I see so many people so much worse off then I am. I appreciate what I have and enjoy everyday. My husband is older than I am and is in good health. This is a blessing for me since I have osteoarthritis in all my joints. I cook, clean and keep the house in show condition. He does the wash, dishes, garden and walks the dog. I guess I can't ask for much more than that. LOL

Because I am the cook and love to create dishes, I make them the way I should be eating. I add potato to his and also applesauce to make him think he is getting a little more. We both like the same things so it is easy. Last night I did Atkins kilbasa and saurkraut from the book and just added a little onion. Than I stacked a few canned potatoes in the middle of the kilbasa, added 2 tablespoons of sugar free maple syurp, caraway seeds and baked it for 30 minutes. He thought it was great and I loved the saurkraut.

I hope we both get our wish to lose a few pounds. I am thankful for what I have already lost. The veggies have pushed my sugar up. So I am watching the kind of veggies I eat. I read the book as often as I can and I am sure we all wish is that we started sooner. My best, Audrey

Hi Audrey. The scale has not moved for me in six weeks. The day before yesterday I finally dropped a pound and now the scale has bounced back up. BUT I feel better, I am losing inches (not a lot but a little) and I know I am healthier. Its hard to get your head around those things being enough sometimes, but that's the way it is.

I will say that I got my first compliment yesterday, I was told that I looked like I lost a lot of weight. I took it as a positive. My inches have gone down slowly but it is better than not at all. I do see my clothes feeling looser and I acturally put a pair of pants on that were hanging in the closet for a couple of years LOL. My next goal is to be able to buy a new pair of pants in a smaller size than I am wearing now.

I have lost only 1.5 pounds so far and I am in my second week of induction..but my glucose readings are much better so I am going to stay with this as well..Like the rest I have read the DANDR 2002 so many times but the weight is just not moving..I am drinking about 72oz of water a day and my carb count is below the 20..I keep track on the Fitday as well and my daily quotas are good..for fat, protein and carbs.so I guess I am just a slow loser, sure wish I could have been a slow gainer

we'll get there, it will just be a slower pace but the old "turtle and the hare" comes into effect with us. Last Wednesday was our 9th wedding anniversary - the only nice top I had (that wasn't a cotton t-shirt looking thing) was one I had bought for our family dinner at Christmas...we ended up going to an Asian restaurant instead of the Italian place where you really are expected to dress up, so I never wore the top. I decided since we were going out to a nice dinner I'd dress up for the occassion ... in my Christmas top. Well, it is way too big on me (and was fairly tight when I bought it) so I wore it and kept putting the shoulders back so I didn't look so frumpy. I never thought I'd ever be too small for the top but it was a nice reminder that yes, I have lost weight even though I don't see it too much in the mirror - I've lost a lot of inches but when I look in the mirror I still see a slightly smaller version of the fat lady from Christmas. I'm hoping by the end of summer I'll be down a few more pounds.

The meds we take are what makes it harder for us to loose than others. But, we are lucky that we can loose some weight, albeit slowly. I'm learning a new lesson - patience. I guess I'm having trouble learning about it so the lesson is taking longer to be taught!!! LOL!!

Have a wonderful day!

I know it does get easier everyday and realize this is a long term program (I hate to call it a diet because I have begun to accept the fact it is for the rest of my life). Today is fathers day and my Daughter had us over for dinner. Steak and salad with a few mushrooms sauted in butter. I did the mushrooms because she always puts wine in hers and I told her I couldn't eat them with wine. She really understands because she also has a weight problem. I told her not to wait till she was my age to begin to think about losing weight. It was hard to see them both eat a large baked potato with lots of sour cream. Ah! but to have had a taste. LOL My best, Audrey

when you want a baked potato with sour cream try Linda's substitute -- I love it and have it often! Linda's Low Carb Menus & Recipes. I have that nearly everytime we have steak for dinner. That way when the hubs and mom are eating their baked potatoes I have mine too!!!

I hope your daughter takes your advise and doesn't wait. The older you are and the more wrong with you the harder it is to get the weight off. I still believe this is the easiest way to loose weight even if it isn't the fastest. I never feel hungry, the food is wonderful and I'm happy -- three things I can't say about diets!!

Glad you had a good meal and enjoyed Father's Day Audrey!! We had a nice day here also.

Default Re: so discouraged

I recently had a case of bad disappointment too. I had only lost half a lb from April to July. I did have my blood sugars under control though. I still thought that if I tried another program that I'd loose weight. Boy, was I wrong! I did the Sugar Busters! program for a couple weeks. As soon as I started eating more carbs, like flax meal, whole wheat bread with no sugar and sugar free ice cream, all foods allowed on this program, my blood sugars went crazy! One day I was at 202! Needless to say I was feeling crappy. Crappy doesn't even begin to describe it. Achy all over, a constant dull headache and very moody. It suddenly came to me that I was feeling so bad because I was eating all the starchy carbs that I hadn't for several months. Duh! So, I'm back on program and gonna stay on it. I'm not saying I won't ever fall off the wagon but I'm gonna do my best to stay this time. So, hang in there. Don't get discouraged. Even if you aren't loosing weight you are getting healthier each day that you eat this way and do a little exercise.
