| What did you eat - with portion sizes? My fasting numbers went down almost immediately.

| Also Denise, do you have a copy of the 2002 Dr Atkins New Diet Revolution (DANDR) book? That's the one we follow here. How long ago were you diagnosed with Type 2 and what have your numbers looked like before starting Atkins? Here is some information that may help you since you are getting started. If you have any questions we're here to help as much as we can! If a food isn’t listed on the acceptable food list don’t eat it. Learn to read the label on all foods you buy - don’t just look at the “carb” number look at the ingredients list of everything and check the ingredients against your list. Just because it says "low carb" doesn't mean you can eat it. Also check for hidden sugars (learn the names used in place of the word “sugar”). We count "net carbs" (carb minus fiber = net carbs) – you can keep track of your daily food on a free program at www.FitDay.com or another tracking program. | yesterday 8/9 was my first day. On 8/8 I had my normal eating and even had a chocolate covered Haggan Daz bar and woke up with a fasting of 148 which is about where it has been. This morning after eating low carb (listed below) my sugars taken 3 times were high 170s - 180's. I have never had a fasting that high. Yesterday I ate 2 eggs 1/2 small red pepper stevia chedder cheese pork sausage canned white meat chicken Mayo cucumbers olives cream coffee citrucel (always use this because of my thyroid meds) cream cheese mini babybel cheese lipton pasta sauce (1/4 cup at most) ground beef Italian sausage parmesan cheese That was what I ate yesterday so not sure what caused the high fasting. |

| the fact that this was your first day and you had ice cream the day before could contribute to the fasting number being higher. Wait a few days and see if they come down. Also, the Lipton Pasta sauce - not on the acceptable food list so you shouldn't eat it. There are recipes for pasta sauces you can make that are legal. You don't put amounts in for what you ate so it doesn't help at all. We are allowed 3 servings of sweetner are allowed daily. 3 - 4 oz of cheese daily, decaf coffee not regular is what you should be drinking and 3 oz of cream is allowed daily -- are you close to these amounts? Post your menu on the Rate My Menu area WITH amount you ate so someone can help you. Review My Menu - Atkins Diet. Do you use a program that tracks your food like www.fitday.com or www.sparkpeople.com - how do you know how many carbs and other nutrition you are getting daily? How much water are you drinking daily? 64 ounces is the minimum -- that's pure plain water -- nothing added. Hang in there -- give the plan a few days -- read the book so you know what you're doing and good luck!!

| I use fitday. I am not doing the 20 carbs yet as I was cutting it way down first then 20. I am addicted to carbs and had put a regular day in before and was about 100 carbs (not good for a diabetic). Yesterday I had 30 carbs and 1950 calories. With my weight being very high this did not seem to high in the calorie dept. I had regular coffee. All the amounts were in line and I drink water bottles all day long usually 4 to 5. I do not really drink much else other then my cup of coffee in the morning. I might drink 2 other drinks a week either diet hansons root beer or fuze low carb. I was just in shock to see my blood sugar so high when I ate what is more in line with what I should eat. Not the Haggen Daz and pasta I had the night before I even started that gave me a fasting of 148 |

| I have discovered that if I have anything with caffeine that my sugar will go up. I've read some posts from other folks here on the forum who report the same thing. |

Pure water - nothing added is what is suggested we drink ....the drink mixes, diet drinks and drinks like Fuse are mostly chemically based so they aren't something that are good for you to begin with. What have your numbers been like the last few days? Did you post your exact food for a couple days on the Review My Menu area? Was it helpful to get others opinions?
