Default Diabetes and Induction

My fasting blood sugar has been high (175) and was wondering if I should start on induction or gradually decrease carbs? I am afraid I will get light headed on low carbs. I KNOW that is what I need to get my sugar under control. Help Please!!!

Default Re: Diabetes and Induction

Hi again John

I started on full induction January 5, 2009. I never had any trouble with low blood sugars until the last few weeks, but I've had a lot going on but I've learned how to deal with it.

Get the book (if you don't have it already), read it - give yourself the best possible advantage to doing this properly. Ask all the questions you need to -- you will find the people here are so kind and giving of their time - we are all here for the same reason and we help each other every step of the way.

Good luck to you!!
I forgot to tell you in the introduction area - when I started Atkins my A1C was 10.3 -- the last time I had it checked (about 2 months ago) it was 5.0 -- huge difference...and I feel so much better because of having my sugars under control and with the weight I've lost.

I take glyb/metformin 5/500 in the morning and 1000mg metformin in the evening and have since I was diagnosed last July. I'm hohping in a couple weeks when I see my endocrinologist that she either reduces or I'm off the meds completely.

You will see a lot of people here who have "taken themselves" off their meds -- I wouldn't do that because I have other issues that the metformin helps with but other people do stop their meds without their doctors knowledge. I guess the reason I don't is because I believe in going by the rules (the way I was raised) and until a health professional thinks it's time to go off them.
