| By all means start the diet now and be very strict about it. . You will most likely pass a blood glucose test if you do this even for a few days but it is too late to fool a A1c, Maybe they won't do one. The advise to eat carbs before testing was to be able to point to the diet as the caouse for later success. Good luck. |

| If you are going to your primary care physician to be tested as a follow up from the ER the first thing they should do is an A1C. That will tell if you are actually diabetic and what your starting A1C number is. You should get to the doctor and start Atkins or whatever plan the doctor advises (if you want to) as soon as possible. I was diagnosed Type 2 last July - in January I started Atkins and I've taken my A1C from 10.3 to 5.0 since then. Many people have gone from taking diabetes medicine to not taking any after a few months on Atkins - but you shouldn't do anything without your doctors ok first. Good luck.

| If you start that way you may not get insurance. My suggestion was for a way to be sure of getting insurance. |
