Default Kittie's Chocolate Chip Smoothie

Edit: It seems I have miscalculated the carbs in this recipe. It is still low-carb compared to regular drinks of the same sort, but it is definitely not induction friendly and should only be enjoyed occasionally.

Ingredients:

1 cup heavy whipping cream

2 small squares unsweetened baking chocolate (I use Baker's brand)

about 1/3 cup of splenda

3 heaping tablespoons chocolate whey protein powder

1 teaspoon vanilla extract

8-10 ice cubes

How to Prepare:
Take one square of the baking chocolate and melt it in the microwave (be careful not to burn it). Pour the small amount of liquid chocolate along with the whipping cream into the blender. Add an additional, unmelted square (this will give the drink the "chocolate chip" texture) and the rest of the ingredients.

First set the blender to crush the ice for about 20 seconds. Then whip/blend the mixture for an additional 15 seconds. The end result should have no visible ice and very small bits of the chocolate. If drink appears too liquidy, add more ice and blend again.

Pour into a tall serving glass and enjoy!

NOTE: The chocolate bits tend to settle at the bottom of the glass, avoid drinking the gritty buildup.

editing cause i thought i sounded kinda harsh, when i reread it i didn't mean it to sound like that!

Here is what i got when this was entered in fitday (this is the ingredients not including the protein powder since i don't know your brand? but i'd assume that would be another 1 or 2 g of carbs as well?):

Calories: 1009
Fat 104 g
carbs 22
fibre 4
protein 8

One cup of cream alone contains 7 g of carbs.

the cream has 7g of carbs
bakers unsweetened chocolate has 8
the splenda has 7
the vanilla has 1

if you haven't already, you should open an account on www.fitday.com it's a great way to track your carbs in recipes.

Ugh, I feel so embarrassed about that! I've been seeing cream and splenda in a lot of recipes and didn't consider them big carb contributors. I sincerely apologize for this. I'd delete the thread if I could, because it's not really carb-friendly. But since I can't, I guess it's here for maintenence/pre-maintenence people.

Don't be emabarrassed, it's really easy to underestimate carbs in recipes, fitday is a great tool, i'm sure before i found it i often did the same. You have to be careful with cream, it's not a 'free food' and can cause stalls, and yes splenda has carbs (loose baking splenda has 24g per cup!) and is a limited food as well (3 sweetener servings per day). if you must use splenda i would use the packets. they have less carbs.

You can modify this recipe to lower the carbs quite a bit, use less cream (maybe a 1/4 cup or less?) and mix with water, cut the chocolate in half as well, you can maybe put cocoa powder in for some of it? Davinci syrup (0 carbs) would sweeten this really well, i think there's even a cookie dough one! that would be very good.

with those substitutions it would work out too:

484 calories
33 g fat
12g carbs
5g fibre
30g protein

Keep in mind this still would not be induction friendly with the chocolate.

I used my own protein shake amounts (3g of carbs per serving). that's w/o the splenda. Cutting back on that cream and chocolate made a huge difference!

I'm thinking also that you could cut even further back on the cream and add a couple of tbns of cream cheese before you blend to make this thick! i do that with my protein shakes and add ice, makes it like a real milkshake.

Cheers
