Emotional Eating! So many of us nod our head in agreement when someone saids "comfort" food. Mine happens to be a gallon of ice cream. It would solve every current problem that I suffered from, until the blood sugar went awry, and the post-binge guilt took over.
We included this subject here as there are ways to deal with this issue and it starts by talking about it.

Hi ,Littie Lott, Of course Atkin's works for older people.. My Hubby and I, (we are retired & grandparents, in our early 60's) started Atkin's the first time in January 2004, during the next 20 months I lost 40lbs and he lost 50lbs.. We moved house in May last year, & got really busy & forgot our food plan.. He put on 12lbs and your truly put on 35lbs, so here we go again..This is my 2nd time around, and I am on my 6th day of Induction.. I have Thyroid disease and Diabetes, Type 2.. Now my weigh-in day is Thursday.. But todate my blood sugar is in a normal target range, (since I started Atkins on Jan.5,2006)..My cravings for carbs have gone, & my bing eating at night has stopped..Am I happy?? you better believe it!!! By the way I have a head cold, & still am happy..CU Malka

Hi All,
I'm really aware that I turn to food for comfort... want to kick the habit once and for all, so I'm back to induction to try again.

Greetings everyone. I am an emotional eater. If I feel overwhelmed by life's inevitable problems, I turn to food. My trigger foods are sugar laden, high salt, high fat carbs. I am writing because I just finished a successful 2 week induction. I was looking forward to the dairy rung so I could make this delicious quiche. But, I was stalled by a cheesecake I made. I used only allowed foods for the ingredients. I don't know where I went wrong. Should I stay away from cheescake? Any feed back would be encouraging. I plan to complete another induction week without cheesecake in hopes I can get back on track. Here I go, Peace.

You could post your menu here and see what the others think: http://www.atkinsdietbulletinboard.com/forums/forumdisplay.php?f=50

Just don't give up. This plan will work if you put forth the effort.

Hi there, I see there isn't much action going on here, but I could sure use some interaction with others like me. I'm a compulsive over eater, and it's most definitely emotional. It's been going on for quite a while now and I don't even really know when it started. I seem to remember battling with weight for a very long time (since my teens anyway) and have lost and gained about 1000 pounds over the years.

There were times I turned to anarexia to stop the madness. Ya, try and wrap that around your head! The thing I love about Atkins is that I don't have to starve myself and can eat when I want and need to. It's not always the things I want, but in the end it's better for me.

It's kinda like a roller coaster you can never get off of. It's hard.

Hiya!
Emotional eating... two words that ring true for so many of us. I have been struggling with esteem issues for as long as I can remember. Getting caught up in co-dependant relationships, drug usage and eating disorders, it has manifested itself into something that was out of control. I went to treatment for the drug usage and was councelled for a lot of the depression. But I never addressed the esteem issues and how much I was emotionally eating! Only in my late twenties has it been something I was made of aware of. I turned to the Atkins Nutritionists approach at the beginning of this year. My addictive personailty made me so obsessed with the diet, as it was working! For the first time, I was losing weight with the results I was always looking for. Previously, I was always trying to loose weight, if it wasn't weight loss pills, it was low-fat this, and calorie counting that. I would lose hope completley and end up on a packet of Hobb-Nobbs by the evening. (every evening,LOL!)
The obssession to loose weight became intense once I found a diet that worked and every thought was taken up with little sums in my head about how many nett carbs and calories versus fat intake and RDA's! I have lost10kg's since January and I am still struggling with getting my head around moving into O.W.L, beause I am so scared to risk weight gain. But everyday gets better, as I approach my target weight and prove that I am not putting the weight on again, and everyday, I love myself a little more. Everyday I give myself better credit for accomplishing, what I consider, my biggest goal of my life. Having dealt with the embarresment of being overweight for so long, I am starting to grow the confidence to admit I like who I am.

Good for you Tamaryn.
I guess some things can only be achieved in small steps. But there is nothing wrong with that.
Hope you will move to OWL - it just starts with some more veggies. And that is a very unscary first step.
