Default I'm trying to change my relationship with food.

Hi...

I used this board back in '06 to lose the extra lbs. from having my 2nd baby and I had great success. Over the past couple of years, I have found myself going back up the scale due to a ton of terrible health issues and my own fault by not staying on this WOL. Now, I am back to get it off again and stay on track and TRULY commit to this WOE/WOL.

I do realize and I am aware that I will binge or want to binge depending on my emotions. I have delt with this for many years. I am in the process of working on this behavior and trying to change it.

I know it is NEVER okay to binge, but my question is this....If the desire should come and I simply lose control is it okay to maybe over indulge in an Atkin's friendly food until I get better control over this. I figure if I lose control on an Atkin's friendly food than the guilt wouldn't be as bad as if I complete lose control and get off track. Does that make since?

Truse me....I do know that it is not okay to binge at anytime. But, I am just completing my 1st week on Induction and I don't want to start and stop just because I might have a bad day here and there. If I have a bad day and don't get off track I think that would be better than completely falling off the Atkins wagon.

I am doing good right now and am on the right track. The binging doesn't happen every day or even every week, but it does happen and want to at least be in some control when it does. Like I said, I am working to better myself and get rid of this type of self medication. It only makes matters worse in the long run and does nothing to make me feel better about my self.

Any type of input is greatly appreciated here.

~Hugs~

I 100% agree with you than any kind of binge isnt good...but I do think that a binge on atkins legal foods would be much better than a binge on high / bad carb high sugar foods....For me I am addicted to sugar and have abused it for years...so a binge on a food containing sugar WILL result in me falling off of Atkins..I know because it has happened to me over and over in the last 4 years...Therefore I now treat sugar as though it were poison or a drug....because to me, it is. I have used sugar as a comfort food since I was a child...so thats why I am where I am now....and its why I stay away from it.

When i feel the need to binge i do exactly that, i eat atkins friendly foods. I usually make a cup of broccoli cauliflower mix and add lots of unsalted butter and drink a big cup of water. It helps alot and kills the urge for the binge. Or if i just have to have something sweet i make some flaxmeal hot cereal, 1 to 2 tbsp flaxmeal and water, heat it in the micro and then add unsalted butter, splenda, and cinnamon. Then i follow it with a big cup of water, makes me so full i really dont want to binge anymore.

Thanks for your encouraging words. I am really trying to change some things about myself that are causing me to fail at my weight loss goals. It's really comforting to know I'm not the only one who has this problem. It's awful how food can become so negative and controlling over our lives.

I am a work in progress!
