Default August Jump Rope and Hula Hoop Challenge

This challenge is for hula-hooping AND/OR jump rope - you don't have to do both! Pick one and join us, or go for both. If you meet your goals there is an award for your signature.

Want to be insanely fit? Try jump rope (or skipping as you may know it as)! Skipping is great for your cardio fitness - if you don't believe me try and skip for 5 mins straight. It can be fun too and if you're a bit advanced you can do all kinds of tricks.

Hula is great to do, and easy to fit into your life - you can do it in front of the TV and it can be toning.

If you fancy trying either of these consider joining this challenge for some less traditional, and very fun, exercise.

In this challenge you can do hula-hooping and/or jumping rope. Your goal is set by you - just state the number of minutes you wish to do in both activities (or only one) in the list.

You don't have to do both if you don't want to!

NB skipping can be tough on the knees, especially if you still have a lot of weight to lose, so please be careful to wear good quality trainers to minimize impact, try a softer surface and stop if it hurts!

NB Hula hooping can be tough on your dignity. Please only attempt it with a silly grin on your face.

How to sign up:
1) Copy and paste your name onto the list in the post below this one.
2) State your MONTHLY jump rope minute goal like this: JR 5/20
3) State your MONTHLY hula-hooping minute goal like this: HH 5/20
4) Report as often as you like by updating the ENTIRE list

Of course I'm in and DETERMINED to meet goal this time. I need to be able to skip for 20 minutes non-stop as part of my blue belt grading (urgh). So far form this at the mo, so need to practice a lot.

Boy, that's the truth! Still pretty new at hula hooping and probably spend more time bending over and picking up the hoop that actually HHing. It is fun though!

Hi Mizski!

Thanks so much for joining me and for your concern about swine flu. I'm on the mend, out of the 7 day quarantine tommorrow and hope to be exercising soon!

Hula-ing is tough at first, but I bet you'll get better in no time! My husband loves that movie and that song - he was singing it just today in fact. I'll have to try it.

It probably comes out to 20 minutes or so but I count 15 minutes to make up for all the times I have to pick the hoop up off the floor. Mr. Ski doesn't quite know what to make of my HHing routine...it's a LOT of fun with this music...don't know if he really appreciates my singing while I'm doing it tho'

This challenge sounds like so much fun! Unfortunately I live in an apartment building and jump roping is out of the question. As for Hula Hooping I have no idea how to and I don't own one... Maybe I can convince my bf to buy me one for next month.

Mizski - great play list! I got Boom Boom Pow on spoftify toay and am enjoying it

Ohbehave007 - certainly hope to see you join us next month. Hoops are relatively cheap on ebay if you can't find one. I recommend a larger hoop, it is easier to do by far.

I'm still not quite well and after over exerting myself at the wedding (dancing at a wedding) I am feeling weird again, so taking it slow - again! Hope to be back to it soon, but kep it up in the meantime
