| I've been looking into the "Maffetone Method" for heart rate. His formula is 180-age...give or take 5 for previous training. So my MAF (max aerobic function) is 142...which translates into over 14 min miles. I've done this for a couple weeks and I haven't seen any improvement. And it seems this pace hurts my feet more because it's a kind of shuffling gait. I'm going to start adding in some fartleks to see what happens. |

| I have recently joined a gym. The only exercise I am currently doing is walking the treadmill. I have one at home, but somehow paying that montly due and having a buddy to go with makes me more accountable. I talked to my DR. about what is an acceptable heart rate for my age and weight. First I was trying to manually increase and decrease the speed to keep my heart in line. Then I figured out this fancy machine will do that for me, so I set the perimeters and off I go. At first I was only able to achieve 1.8 miles in an hour, all because of my heart rate. But within a week I have been able to increase to 2.5 miles. And I do not feel particularly tired afterwards. Walking an hour gets a little boring, but I am tring to get a few more girls to go with us, that will make it a bit more fun.

| So, if this formula holds true...my fat burning range would be 112 bpm?? Is that possible for serious fat burning? I would be amazed. My resting heart rate is what I consider high, around 90-100 bpm. There are sooooooooo many calculators out there, I'm not sure what to go with. |
