A few things, Quo ~

First,

Second, as long as you don't miss many more running days, just missing two isn't going to hurt anything. In fact, I've had to miss a few consecutive days every now and then, and am always surprised to see how strong I feel when I run again. I think the body needs the rest sometimes.

Next, please don't burn yourself out! I can be SO guilty of that... it's like, if I'm not killing myself with tons of exercise, I don't think I'm doing enough good to make a difference, so I don't do any at all. STUPID!

I do think it's important to cross train with other forms of exercise besides running, but you don't have to do each of those forms everyday. I've finally gotten into a groove lately... sometimes I do more than 1 form of exercise in a day, but my main goal is to try to do something at least 5 days a week, and to run at least 3 days a week on non-consecutive days. I was able to run 4 times this week because the timimg fell right (Sunday, Tuesday, Thursday, Saturday)... next week will be 3 days. I usually ride my bike on the remaining days, and never do those 2 things on the same day. I'll add some pilates, upper body dumbbell work, or ab work in there, as well. Just trying to so something.

Ugh - I understand about tight money. It sucks! I know from experience that shoes can make or break you. Please be careful and monitor as to when it is no longer safe to run in your current shoes. Let the aches and pains be your guide.

Something I have found to be cheap, and quite a workout, is jumping rope. I don't particularly like doing it, but those who have actually tried doing it know that it is an INTENSE workout, and will keep you in shape on the days that you can't run. If done correctly, jumping rope is actually lower impact than running, so you should be able to do it. (my jump rope actually came with a DVD on proper form and techinique).

OK, girl. DON'T beat yourself up over missing just a couple of days. Like I said, it sounds like your body needed the rest. If you're feeling burned out, see if you can find something different to try. You'll either love your new exercise, or it will make you realize how much you like what you're already doing. Just try to stay calm and focused. I'm sorry that your job may be a factor... we spend so much time at work, that it's hard not to let it affect us when we're not there.

Hang in there!

I'm actually doing a 6 day a week boot camp but I just realized it wasn't exhaustion for exercise. My landlord was having a realtor come look at the place and I was really scared. Probably more than I realized. I don't have the money to move and can't afford any other places in my kids school district and it took three years to get my kids in a school and feeling smart enough to do well after a bad school experience before. I am afraid I was freaking out but she just called and she isn't selling and the minute I heard those words I let out this sigh I didn't even realize I had been holding for two weeks. So I am energized and ready to go. I am splitting my P90 and running up though with one in the am and one at night. I am also dropping my running to three days a week so I know I am getting the full benefit of the bootcamp program. Liv, Are you excited about one hour runner?

I am glad that worked out for you. No wonder you were a bit freaked out.

I think I paused before doing my last C25K run because it was a little bit sad and scary to see it come to an end. But yes I am ready for the OHR. I was reading a book on running and I am going to make sure I follow the program and not overdo it. Too many things that can go bad if you don't pace yourself.

I'm going to finish C25K tuesday and interested in doing the OHR program with you.

Mitzi, I am so stocked for you. That first 8 minute interval scared the daylights out of me but it was my favorite week.

Thanks, Quo! I was actually way more terrified of the 20 minute interval I did last week. I mean, h*ll, the thought of a jump from 8 minutes to 20 minutes in an interval was crazy! And yet, I pulled it off... amazing. Never, ever, EVER, in a million years, did I ever think I would even consider trying to run. And yet, here I am.

OK, here is the report I posted in my Journal Stats for yesterday:

---------------------------------------------------------------------

SATURDAY, JUNE 7TH

- D1, W6, C25k

Brisk 5 minute warmup walk
Jogged 5 minutes
Walked 3 minutes
Jogged 8 minutes
Walked 3 minutes
Jogged 5 minutes
Walked 20 minutes

I splurged and drove to the indoor track today. Even at 7:00 this morning, the heat and humidity were unbearable outside. Since the track is closed on Sundays, and I work open till close on Monday, I treated myself to the indoor run. It was great!

- Completed the 20 minute Kathy Smith upper body dumbbell workout

- Completed the 20 minute Winsor Pilates workout

- Completed the 14 minute Slim & Limber Cool down/Stretch
--------------------------------------------------------------------

I haven't done anything yet today (Sunday), and I'm feeling pretty lazy. But Monday's are an open to close day at work and I rarely exercise on Mondays... so I really shoud do something. Ah... I'm feeling l a z y....

Well, without you two I might have given up or had to go back over weeks. But I did it and I did it strong. Great run if a tad late but I was wide awake and felt strong and healthy and happy. One more day to go and I am ready to start OHR. I am so happy, I had a crazy fear for a moment there. *laughs* I thought I lost my ability to enjoy exercise and THAT was scary. Almost as scary as that dream I woke up from unsure if I dreamt I ate an entire extra large pizza or really did it! I also attacked P90 and am on schedule again. I decided to go back to three days a week though until I get much better shoes.

Hi Quo
Welcome back. So good to hear all went well.
It will be fun to start the OHR with you when you are done. One more and you graduate AGAIN.

Hi, Quo and Liv

It's so exciting that you two have completed the program! I am very proud.

Will you continue to use this thread to document your progress as you do the OHR together? Or will you start a different thread? Exciting!

Is the OHR you refer to, the program by Kathrine Switzer?

Ok, my stuff:

-D2, W6, C25K
Brisk 5 minute warmup walk
Jogged 10 minutes
Walked 3 minutes
Jogged 10 minutes
Walked 4 minutes

I am SO excited that I don't have to time more than 1 interval anymore! Woo hoo!

Thursday will be my 25 minute session.

Premature!!!! I do my graduation run in about a half hour and I'm going to attempt that crazy hill and bring my camera with me so I can have a nice blog post. Wish me luck! The OHR program is the Switzer program, if you're thinking of doing it as well we could all use the same thread and keep our running trio going
