| LOL (you're funny) ... sorry about the heat and smoke. That does suck. Quote:
To tell you the truth, it never occured to me to run in the street. Every time I'm in my car and have to pass a runner in the street, I have to admit that it always kind of irritated me because some of the streets are busy around here, and there are sidewalks on every street. During peak traffic times, it can be a pain to get around the runners and I always wondered why in the h*ll they ran in the street instead of a perfectly good sidewalk. Now I know. Hmm... it really never dawned on me that it would be any easier to run in the street. One leg of my run is on a street that's too busy to run on, but the rest of the route is on streets that have very little traffic for the time of day that I run, so I'm going to try it. I've never had shin trouble, but I'm all for being as gentle as I can to my body.OK, today was D2, W8, C25K - Ran 2.75 miles in my neighborhood at 8:00am. I had not run that distance yet outdoors, only at the indoor track. It went well. When I first started C25K, I was going by timed intervals rather than distance, because it was easier to keep track of. Once I got down to just 1 interval, I started going by distance instead, because I wanted to be able to run a 5K by the end of the 9 weeks, instead of just being able to run 30 minutes. Of course, the objective is to be running 5K in 30 minutes, but I don't know that I can improve that much in the 4 sessions that I have left. In fact, I doubt it seriously. I'm already running more than 30 minutes in a session just to try to keep up with 2.75 miles. Eventually I'll be running that 3 miles in 30 minutes. |

| OHR D3W3 So ... I must be addicted. I got up very early to run to beat the heat on a day that I have off (We have a long weekend here). It was a nice run - not very fast. I think I could keep going for a while. Got running socks now. They are more comfortable. Even got my pilates-crunch done and it is still early morning. Good work guys on your runs. I don't know how you can deal with smoke qou. My asthma would really give me kaniptions. Mitzi - glad there is some asphalt there for you. I run some back allies which are dirt that I like.

| D3, W8, C25K - Ran 2.75 miles at 7:00am in my neighborhood. Used the street instead of the sidewalk for most of the run, and yep - I think it's gentler on me. Took 34 minutes, 30 seconds - that's the longest it's taken me to run 2.75 miles. I thought that I would be "fresher" since I was running early, but I think I was still in a bit of a stupor when I got out there. Not going to sweat the slower time... at least it got done. Next session will be the big 3 miles! |

| Hello fellow C25Kers (aka: the pros who know Forgive me for intruding on your thread, but I was trying to figure out what worked best for trying to either just focus on the times or the mileage as I move up through the weeks (hopefully). I popped in here for the first time today and read Mitzi's post and it was like a light bulb moment! Quote:

| OHR D1W4: Last nights 30 minute run went beautifully and i felt strong. I'm going to be running 4-5 days a week though so I'm only going to report on the actual OHR required runs and track everything else on buckeyeoutdoors and my blog. I'm going to try to make one extra run of each the short and medium run. I'm still doing the P90 but I've been missing some of the sweat days out of exhaustion so I made a new deal with myself. I go to bed at 9 pm regardless. Which means I can no longer think, "I'll just sleep in, I have time to do it tonight." I think I need a hard and fast rule to make it stick so a) I get more sleep and b) I get my workouts done first thing in the morning so I don't run out of time or get to tired. On a better front, my body loves running! There is a theory that when you run the action of my legs moving past one another and weight on your joints, makes your body think, "uh oh this is hard we need to lose the bottom weight pronto" making it a little better for slimming the lower body and in my experience this is definitely the case. When I was doing more cardio tapes and less running my upper body was dropping weight like mad and my lower was changing a little but since running 30 consistently my thighs are just falling off me! We are creole thigh heavy women in my family. We just don't typically lose any thigh until everything else is gone so this is huge. Even my skinny sister has teeny scrawny arms, tiny weights boobs everything and those darn thighs! Sop thank you two for keeping me on track. Liv, it is addicting. Next week, I'm signing up for the Napa Marathon. It's on March 1st so I'll have been running just under a year. I'm going to do really conservative training so I won't get hurt but I have very good body awareness so I'm know I'll be fine by then. It's not a super hilly course and has great support and less people. I wanted to run a smaller half or 10k but they are just packed with people and I don't do well in large crowds at all.

![]() Quo, that's interesting about dropping weight in your lower body when running, versus cardio. I'm the opposite side of the coin - I have always worn a size smaller on the bottom, than on the top (I've got no a$$). |

| OHR D1W4: Am I glad I am reporting here. I am losing sight of what I am doing. I know I am running but where am I in the training programme? I ran the usual and yes Day One of the all important week four when we are starting to add to our weekly totals. I will be camping for Day 3 so it will be interesting to see if I can get it done on the campground. I am planning to pack my running gear for sure. I hope I do not run into any morning bears. ![]() I started to teach summer school so now I really have to get up with dawn to get the running in (I am a morning or no exerciser). I still am kind of shocked that I do this. I get up early to run. If someone would have told me this last summer I would have told them they were "full of it". Not only I am I running but I LIKE it. Interesting about losing leg fat, quo. I am stocky build - Big thighs and calfs. It has been that way since I was small. I cannot really see me get matchstick legs (like you Mitzi - you look great). But I am fine with what ever happens. I am trying to push my weight down into a place where I have not been the last 20 or so years and I think it is going to be harder than what I have experienced so far.

| D1, W9, C25k ![]() Drove to the indoor track today, and ran my first 3 mile interval - 33 minutes, 44 seconds. Woot! Pretty good, considering that it took me 34 miutes, 30 seconds to run 2.75 miles day before yesterday. BUT, that was outdoors, early in the morning, with a raging TOM. Today it was mid-morning, indoor air-conditioned track, with TOM on the way out. Sweet! Liv, I'm pretty much a morning or no exerciser, too. Especially with the heat, I have to do it very early in the morning or drive to the track. I think it would be cool enough at night, but I don't feel safe running at night. |

| MIZIE!!!!!! You're almost done! I am so happy that your run when so smoothly, here is to the rest of the week ![]() OHR D2W4 While this is my third run this week I am only counting the OHR runs because dang it, I keep losing count! this was my 29 minute run and I did not want it to end. The air was perfect, no traffic and not too cold either. It just felt seamless. I've realized that running is as much mental as physical. When I can get into an almost meditative mind my runs go so much smoother. The crest of the road started to bug my right knee about halfway through to I ran on the other side of the road and finished my second loop in reverse. I think I'll start doing that more often because it really took a lot of pressure off and when I went right into P90 sculpt I wasn't achy like usual.
