Default Cool Running for Week of August 25th

5 miles in.

Have runs of 10,5,18.6, and 5 til the end of the week.

The 18.6 is a 30k race on Saturday. The Labor Day 30K.

Anyone else with races coming up?

Anyone running?

Anyone doing upper body work while healing from foot surgery?

Anyone?

Thanks, Rich !!

I have my surgical boot off now and the foot is elevated in a couple of pillows. Its feeling pretty good today! At the risk being shot by my DH and my doctor, I could *almost* try and walk on it ! (JUST KIDDING) .. but the truth is, I've come a long ways in 3+ weeks .. the doctor said he's amazed at how well the foot is coming along, the swelling is down and the incision is looking good. Getting the stitches out was MURDER, but now that they're gone, its feeling good. I can actually put weight on it for a short time ... i.e. to weigh myself ...

Oh and speaking of weight, I've lost 4 pounds since surgery .. and here I was worried I would gain from all this lying around ... no worries though, I'll be gaining a few back when I start chowing down the protein/fat for marathon training !

I hope to start "walking" daily on October 4 if not sooner (really hoping for SOONER!) At least 1-2 miles a day.

Running target date will be October 26th.....then its Hello Hal Higdon Marathon Training !!!!

18.6 miles in 3:17 or so. 10:36 pace on a very hilly course.

Hills are speedwork in disguise, Rich !! You're in prime shape for Indy!!

As for me .. good thing today is not a running-able day for me ... Hurricane Gustav is off shore (thankfully a SAFE distance off shore), but the winds here are approaching 50mph ... even this far out from the center .. I'd never stand a chance of standing up out there today ! Especially in light of losing 4 pounds in the last 3 weeks ! I'm at 99.5 this morning ... who knew foot surgery could have a bright side?

PRAYERS FOR ALL OUR FRIENDS ALONG THE GULF COAST, ESPECIALLY LOUISIANA!!

I know its silly for me to post on this thread, but I am beginning to think I *may* have turned the corner in my foot surgery recovery ...

Today, no pain meds. The foot is still swollen around the joint, both on the top of the foot and on the ball of the foot under the metatarsal joint .. I've been using my dynasplint rehab appliance and have worked up to keeping it on the toe for 35 minutes at a time (hey, last Wed, the longest I could do was 5 MINUTES !) Hard as it is to admit, that crazy thing *is* helping to stretch the toe .. albeit S L O W L Y. If you look REALLY CLOSELY, you can actually see the toe able to dorsiflex ever so slightly on its OWN today ... major major major progress and a very encouraging sign. I am so hopeful that, once the swelling goes down, I'll be able to flex even farther ... stay tuned. Right now, its all about baby steps (pardon the pun) in getting this foot back to functioning again.

I'm on the brink of moving from a wheelchair to crutches .. probably tomorrow, DH is gonna get me a pair to try .. at the very least, they'll give me a good upper body workout. Here's hoping I don't break my neck on the things .. I am *not* the queen of coordination...

As of today, 179 days remain under marathon day. Now *there* is my motivation to keep working hard.

Rich, how many days till Indy? Gonna take in a Colts game while you're there? I LOVE THE COLTS ... oh shoot .. I just love Peyton Manning !
Oh yeah, and Tony Dungy!
