Default Cool Running for Week of September 22nd

8 miles in!!

This is the last big mileage week, then it's on to marathon #7. Got a 20 miler trying to stare me down Saturday morning. Not happening. I am so going to dominate these 43 miles this week!

What are you getting psyched up for? WALKING a block or two at a time was how I started this 50 marathons in 50 states quest.

Got it in you? You would be surprised how much you can do once you lose the word CAN'T from your vocabulary.

How about walking a 5K? A half marathon? Race your grandson to the end of the couch?

It all counts. Get out there and exercise. Extend your life. Feel great with the life you have. Don't end up old and sedentary. Climb Pike's Peak when your 80. I'm hoping to be running marathon's at that age.

Sorry for the ramble. There are, sometimes, runs that you finish that make you feel like you could accomplish anything.

This is one of those days.

That's why I run.

OMG, Rich, what a great post. I cried reading it.

I'm here .. and I've been walking almost 7 days a week (foot willing...) I've walked over 2 miles (relatively a fast pace, considering....) for the past 4 days in a row ...

My foot ... It hates being PUSHED and trust me, I PUSH IT .. I've gotten to the AGGRAVATED point with it .... so tired of the pre-surgery pain and even more tired of the post-surgical rehabilitation pain .. which of course the doctor assures me WILL PASS .. (WHEN????) I *am* gaining some dorsiflexion in the toe, but its SLOW going...and of course I am NOT a patient patient....

Right now, I can walk approx 2.6 miles in about 50 minutes .. horrendously and embarrassingly SLOW, but what can I do?

All I can say is, TRUE marathon training starts October 26 and this foot HAS to be ready.

7 marathons .. I am IN TOTAL AWE OF YOU, MY FRIEND!!!

I hope I can be like you when I grow up.

Betty

OMG Betty you are my hero! You can walk 2.6 miles on a post surgery foot in 50 minutes, I ran a 5k in 38 minutes last weekend, that should put your speed into perspective! You'd walk circles around me!

That said, the only runs i do are usually charity ones, that way the only person i'm trying to beat is myself..my short little legs don't allow me to run very fast..but i figure as least I'm running!

I haven't been here in a while...so glad to see you back betty!

This week so far I've done 1.5 miles yesterday, last week ran my fourth 5k Terry Fox Run in 38 mins, but was really out of training, that i was crippled with muscle pain for 4 days.

didn't help that i completely redecorated my stepdaughters bedroom non stop from friday to race day sunday, including painting and installing a whole floor myself (7 hours) bent over. i have to say it was a silly move on my part, and I know better next year than to run it without training properly...

on the bright side I raised $230 for the Terry Fox Foundation for cancer research which is a record for me!

I'm going to commit to get back to my running (I've been a slacker) and posting here to keep me honest!

and Rich, I agree with Betty, that was an awesome and very inspirational post!

Thanks so much, Jen! Glad to see you back here!!!

Okay folks, sitting down? Today, Saturday, I walked 3.2 miles !! That's my farthest attempt yet and yes, I am pretty derned proud of it!

I walked 7 days straight this week: a total of 17 MILES ! Oh yeah, my foot swells after every walk, but so what ... I keep pushing on anyhow. Progress is slow, but ya wanna hear something exciting? Before the surgery when I would wear "flip-flops", only my right foot would FLIP, the other one, due to the total inability to flex the toe, would sorta SLOP.... and I couldn't make an audible "flip-flop" sound with the left foot .. but guess who can make a sound NOW?????? Albeit very quietly, but if you strain, you can hear it! Small victory, yes, but still ......... Considering I've only been weight bearing for a total of 18 days?? YAY ME !

Now, onwards to being like our multi-marathon-man, Mr. Rich! Hey, buddy, how'd the 20 miler go ???

Betty

20 miler Saturday was great. Temps in the 50s. Finished it in 3:32 or so. Nice and easy.

5 miles in today. Kind of a recovery run.

On to the taper!

Rich, that's a fabulous 20 mile time! WTG!!

Sun, Mon, each 2.3 miles, Tuesday, 2.3 miles, but 1.5 of it was jogging! Yeah, the foot hurts, but ask me if I care!
