| Welp, I ran.. my ipod said with the before/after race business, 14 miles... but we all know it's 13.1. I did better than the previous one (probably since it was not freezing cold), but not training and weighing more definitely did not help. :P

| Hello all! Im trying to run -- I ve been trying to build up endurance to able to run on my treadmill. This is my fourth week on Atkins and i have walked/ran everday for 40 minutes. I have gotten to the point where I can run for 3 minute intervals. What I do is start the treadmill at 46 minutes counting down so it goes like this: by the way my treadmill uses kilos 46-43 ---> warm up walking at 3-4-5 43-40 --> walking at 6.5 40-37 --> running at 8 37-30 --> walking at 6.5 30-27--> running at 8 27-20--> walking at 6.5 20-17--> running at 8 17-10--> walking at 6.5 10-7--> running at 8 7-3 --> walking at 6.5 3-0 --> cool down walking at 5-4-3 I end up with 5 kilos (which is 12 minutes of running and 40 minutes of walking) but i notice in the running part i feel my knees getting stressed and they kinda hurt and my calves burning. Its probably because Im too heavy for my poor knees but Im gonna keep this up for another week and then increase the running interval i guess cuz this is still hard for me to do. so i can post in this thread daily? Do I look like im doing okay for my first month on Atkins especially since I havent exercised in years? --Whereami

| Whereami, you are more than welcome to post your progress here! Congratulations on the great work and keep it up!!! ![]() As for me, 5.2 mile run after work today in 86 degree heat.... Rest day tomorrow and I need it! momonmission, its always harder to run outdoors than on a dreadmill (at least that's my opinion...) There are way more variables outside (heat, humidity, wind, terrain ...) that you don't have on a machine. Besides, running on a dreadmill, the machine is basically doing the "thrust" work for you; outdoors, its ALL on you. Makes a huge difference. Personally I don't own a dreadmill for that very reason; I love the challenge and results that running outdoors gives me. Even during the insidious summer heat and humidity that we have here in west central Florida. I agree that the couch to 5k program would be great for you if you really want to learn to run outdoors. Its a gradually progressive program that really will have you running 3.1 miles non-stop before you know it! Betty

| hello, today i had my walk/run a little earlier today because I had a get together to go to. I did the 12 minute run and 28 minute walking by the interval approach i had mentioned earlier. i had called the host of the get together yesterday and told her she has to put out atkins friendly foods so she did just that. I had cucumber sticks dipped in cream cheese, also cheddar cheese and grilled chicken. It was perfect. Thank God I stayed on track because they were eating donuts, cherry pie and other sweets!

| Liv, unfortunately I HATE the music they offer and can't figure out how to make my own mix to run with. They have it set up so you know when to run, walk and all that. I really want to do it though! ugh Betty, the thrusting makes total sense! I never thought about it that way. Thanks for the info girls! Maybe I can figure out a way to make my own podcast for my runs and just go outside. Especially before it gets to be 115 out here in arizona. yuck! |
