I ordered and received the book "Atkins for Life". It arrived last night. I've only had the chance to scan through it, but look forward to reading it more soon.

One thing that I found interesting was in a gray box amidst one of the chapters. It was basically for people that only had this book and hadn't used the 2002 book with all 4 phases. (This book is obviously geared mostly towards phase 3 and 4.) It said if you have more than a few pounds to lose, you should start with induction. If you only have a few pounds to lose, start with 60mg carbs a day and see what happens. If you're losing, stay there and add 5mg carbs a week until you gain and then back down by 5mg and you're good to go. If you don't lose or you gain on 60, lower to 50 and then see how that goes...and so on.

I just found it to be interesting and just a different take on basically the same diet for those with little to lose. I would definitely stick myself in this category as I only have 5-10lbs to lose. I'm not going to suddenly up my carbs to 60 to try this way instead, but I am inching my way up. I don't know what would have been easier. It's so nice not being hungry all the time and I wonder if starting at 60 would have the negative of not eliminating cravings. Who knows.

It's got nice recipes in the back of the book too. Seems like a good buy and I look forward to reading more.

YEA ME!!! sO i DIDN'T BRING MY LUNCH TO WORK TODAY, SO i WAS GOING TO RUN DOWN THE STREET TO GET A CHICKEN CEASAR SALAD. wELL ON MY WAY, I SAY ANOTHER RESTAURANT BUFFET TYPE AND DECIDED TO GO IN TO SEE WHAT THEY HAVE. :running:

sO I SCOPED THE COUNTERS AND SAW WHITE RICE AND CORN, SOME FETUCCINI, SOME BBQ, ETC... KEPT WALKING KEPT WALKING :running: THEN I SAW GREEN BEANS, SPINACH, CABBAGE, SOME GRILLED CHICKEN, SOME ROASTED CHICKEN, SOME FRIED SHRIMP... OH MY. SO I JUMPED TO THE NEXT COUNTER AND SAW CHICKEN SALAD, TUNA SALAD, LETUCES AND RAW VEGETABLES, SOME BOILED EGGS, SOME JELLO-S. WELL U GET THE POINT. i ASKED ONE OF THE WORKERS THERE HOW THEY PREPARED THE GREEN BEANS AND ROASTED CHICKEN. GREEN BEANS SAUTED IN BUTTER SO I GOT ME A FEW OF THOSE (COULDN'T MEASURE BUT I ONLY DID ABOUT 15 STRINGS; THE CHICKEN SEASONED AND ROASTED SO I GOT ME A THIGH AND LEG... A SLICE OF FRESH AVOCADO AND THE BEST TREAT OF ALL THAT i FOUND, ALL FRESH COOKED SHRIMP, SCALLIONS, DICED TOMATO, CILANTRO, JALAPENO, SEASONED WITH SALT AND LEMON JUICE. aAAAWWWWW. AND IT WAS SO GOOD. I DIDN'T MEASURE CUZ I PICKED OFF MOST OF THE TOMATO BUT THE SHRIMP AND SCALLION WAS SO GOOD. I ATE IT AS A SIDE SO ALL TOGETHER WAS ABOUT 1 CUP. I STAYED AWAY FROM ALL THE PASTAS AND RICES AND EVEN THE GRILLED CHICKEN CUZ IT HAD SOME KIND OF GRAVY SO I AVOIDED THAT. BUT ALL IN ALL, IT SEEMED ACCEPTABLE. i WON'T EAT IT EVERYDAY, CUZ i HAVE BEEN GOOD IN BRINGING MY LUNCH EVERYDAY, BUT TODAY I DIDN'T HAVE A CHANCE TO PREPARE IT LAST NIGHT.. BUT THIS PLACE CAN BE A LAST ALTERNATIVE.

I have noticed that when I do my weekly weigh-in and measuring sometimes I may lose weight on the scale but not inches on my tape measure. I find that strange :spin: I know typically you lose inches b4 you lose weight on the scale. Could this be a simple case of mis-measuring, and also I don't measure to exact numbers like 5/8ths or anything like that, generally I go with 1/2's, 1/4's, and 3/4's. Just curious if anyone had any insight to this, I'm, happy either way cause the numbers are all going in the downards direction, so woohoo on that one!! Anyone else lose weight on the scale but no so much on the tape measure, I feel backwards! LOL:spin:

Obviously it depends on the person's carb limit for themself, but what do you think the average percentages look like in maintanance? Protein should still be about 30% and fat will be higher than the typical recommended "diets", but what do you think?

ANyway, one fo my co-workers asked me about the Diet. She said she has the book so I told her to read it. It will really give you and explain to you how this works. Well, then she said she is going to do the Atkins Diet and take some Diet pills na dmaybe she will lose weight faster. I told her it was not a good idea. The she asked me why not? So I didn't know what to tell her.

WOuldn't diet pills help you burn fat faster? or maybe the ingredienta in them are not good? IDK. ANyone know what I could tell her?

I told her to give ATkins a try without them and I could help her with support.

Like many members here, I have been stuck at the same weight for almost a week during induction (yes, I exercised regularly and drank plenty of water.) I am doing everything by the book, yet the scale is stuck. I dropped seven pounds initially but I haven't lost another ounce. I have been bouncing between 287 and 289 for four days.

I am thinking back to my days as a powerlifter (and later, bodybuilder) and recalling a strategy that all weight lifters utilize. You must shock your body from time to time. I am convinced that one reason why induction works is because it is such a shock to the system (the elimination of starch, grains, and sugar is a 180 degree turn for all of us) that the body has no choice but to respond. Back to weight lifting - every six weeks or so, I had to alter my workout dramatically because I would plateau. I wouldn't get any stronger, nor would I see any increase in muscle mass or definition. So I altered my workouts - bench press became dumbell press; regular squats became hack squats; dead lifts became good mornings, etc. It took the body by complete surprise; I "shocked" the muscles into making gains, and it worked 100% of the time. I would spend 4-6 weeks doing the altered workouts, then I would alter again. Regular sets and reps became static contractions. Eventually, I would return to the original workout, which would become effective again.

What if we have adapted to the Atkins WOE and our bodies no longer respond to it? Would it make sense to take the bodybuilder approach and go "hard core" for six weeks (just an arbitrary number) on and one week off? I am tempted by the idea but I want to get the opinions of our experts here.

Hello everyone,

I started my first low carb diet on Monday, more seriously from Tuesday.
So I have been on this diet for about 3days.

I've not lost any weight and was feeling ok (only slightly spaced out on occasions) though today I think I'm losing my appetite. And the best thing of all is that I'm not craving a single thing. I'm happy to eat whatever I'm allowed.

I am slightly concerned that I've not noticed any weight change and wondered that IF somehow I'm making any silly mistakes, is that going to stop the diet working for me?

E.g Yesterday

Breakfast: almond pancakes with protein shake
Lunch: Tuna salad with mayo
Dinner: 2 soya pieces (quorn) with stir fry veg cooked in oil with some cream. (quite a large portion)

I mostly drink water or squash (no added sugar & I read the label)

And I do read labels on anything I buy!!

I did have a cup of tea with sweetner yesterday and I have bought a low carb chocolate, which I eat one square of if I crave sweet stuff (only 1 per day).

I basically want to make sure that I'm doing it all right?! I don't want to carry on if I'm doing anything wrong. Just want you guys to confirm it for me... and when will i notice any weightloss? Or when should I notice it by?

And my last 3 questions lol... what happens to all the fat I'm putting into my body? And does anyone know where I can get lowcarb sausages?

I'm eating at Nandos tomorrow, is it ok to eat the skin off the chicken?
And is sweetcorn ok?

That is enough now I guess...
Thanks in advance

Hello,
So you use fat as main energy source while on atkins. The main reason why people don't fast is because the amounts of muscle that is lost (athletes, that is). But if you fast on atkins, won't your body only eat away your fat tissue since muscle loss stops after induction? (or mostly stops). I feel it's like a bucket of water (body fat) where you constantly keep adding water (fat from food).
