I'm also hoping to make a shopping trip out to the states this summer - I'm making a list of things I can't get around here to look for down there - KC Masterpiece classic just made the list: -)
I haven't bought store bought BBQ sauce since I made my own the first time. I make both honey BBQ (I get HoneyTree's SF imitation honey at Wal-Mart) and Kansas City style in a pint jar (16 oz) and it lasts for a long time. It only takes a few minutes to make, and is better than anything out of a bottle, with no mystery ingredients.

Julie, I marinate my chicken in 1/2 cider vinegar and 1/2 water for about 4-6 hours. Then drain and sprinkle liberally with garlic powder, Mrs Dash, onion powder, paprika, black pepper, a little cayenne, maybe some Lawrys on both sides. Then grill. It isn't like a drippy barbeque sauce but it does have lots of flavor. I even shake a little more spice on as I grill sometimes.
