| Turmeric is supposed to be very healthy...among other things it's known for its antioxidant properties and aiding in gallbladder health. Actually, reading this article it is good for a lot of things. Didn't know that. As far as cooking, it has a strong flavor so go light with it at first. It makes that bright yellow color in many ethnic dishes and is used widely in Indian, Moroccan and Ethiopian dishes. Watch out when using it as turmeric is also used as a fabric dye and will turn your fingers/hands yellow and stain your clothes. It can be used for both veggies and meat. Here's Allrecipes top 20 turmeric recipes to give you an idea on some of its culinary uses. I've just used it in curry or Indian dishes such as my beloved kormas. These recipes are pretty easy to make Atkins friendly as they use a lot of cauliflower and I sub cauliflower for the potatoes/rice and sometimes serve them on top of cauliflower "rice" instead of the traditional white rice. Hope some others will be by with their tried and true recipes...I'd like to see them too. ETA: If you scroll down to the last post in this thread (What about soy sauce and wasabi?), Sunny talks about turmeric also. Sounds like it is a great thing to have more of!

| Thanks for the links. I shall read those articles tomorrow. Mizski, I didn't notice your ETA link before. I took a look at the first link from Herb Companion (their website is awesome!), the part where they are talking about stabilizing the curcumin with an acid. I have some radish salsa left over in the fridge, which will probably be breakfast tomorrow with an omelette. I'll add some turmeric to it and see how it tastes. I also sprinkled some on pizza tonight. It gave it an interesting flavor. In a good way.

| Hi Georgiana, Turmeric is also used a lot in Persian cooking. I never knew turneric was good for us to eat until about a year ago, I read it had antioxidants! My husband was born there. And I cook the food. The only problem is most of the wonderful food from his country must be eaten with the beautiful delicious basmati rice!!! And lots of it!!! I never tried it on Pizza though.
