Question About Memory

i have roadrunner installed now.
the guys who installed it said everything is working up to par on the roadrunner side of things and my apparent slowness is because i need more memory.
my computer is not quite 4 years old. when we defrag it, i have 54% used space. that may not be the exact lingo but a computer geek might know what i am speaking of.

question: if i have more memory installed, is the computer going to be faster? i'm working on the board with the speed of dial up at the moment. barbie says memory will make a difference. does anybody concur with this?

when i had dsl, it was much faster than this and that was only several weeks ago.

Yes memory will help. I did this recently and it was SO EASY!

Depends on what you're doing on your PC (or what's going on under the covers) and also the Operating System you are running. Memory will not make web pages display much faster - if that is what you're hoping for. As a temporary solution, you could try using a 'lighter' browser. On the other hand, increasing memory is an inexpensive first step.

I just went from 128 Megabytes of RAM (Virtual Memory) to 1 Gigabyte of RAM, and it made a BIG difference for me. In my case, even though my computer was only 4 and 1/2 years old, I had to buy a new one because, supposedly, I couldn't buy what was needed.

yes, loading these pages is exactly what i am after. this is dial up slow and i can't get anything done here. i think what i am seeing here is that it is not so costly, it is a first step and some things will come up faster but not perhaps everything. i think we should get more memory and if that doesn't do the trick we go from there. maybe we'll get the landline and go with dsl again.

so do i take the computer to a computer shop and they install the memory or is this something we can do ourselves?

What happens if you run low on RAM (memory) your PC will use the hard drive for the memory it needs which is a lot slower than RAM.

RAM (memory) is really easy to install Jimmiejo! But first you have to be comfortable with taking the cover off of your unit. Can you handle that to start with?? You can call me and I can help you with what I can over the phone if you like!!

I believe that this is the site my brother-in-law suggested that I use on my old computer. Excellent site!!

As stated in my earlier thread, I wasn't able to upgrade due to unavailability.
