Default Photo Software Suggestions

I am hoping I can get some feedback here about the best software to edit photos and so forth. I have software that came with my digital camera (kodak) and my printer (HP) and it isn't all that fancy. I can do the basics - crop, color enhance and so forth. I am looking for a little more but not too hard to use and inexpensive. I do a little scrapbooking and would like to do some different things with the photos - such as maybe a collage format, write text on the pictures, change the background of the photo, hide portions of the photo - hopefully you know what I am talking about. What software do you use and do you have any suggestions?

Thank you!
Lisa

I use Adobe photo shop, personally. It does all I need it to do.

I would recomend that you dont use your Kodak software, as it slowed down my computer badly, even when not in using the software.

But that may have just been my system.

I'm a HUGE fan of Jasc's Paint Shop Pro. It's user friendly, powerful, and it isn't overly bloated (like I find PhotoShop to be) or pricey. There are about a bajillion online tutorials, users groups, and online classes for it too! Great software and good price!

FWIW, the Adobe one that I have was a free download.

If that helps at all.

I'd recommend either Photoshop Elements or Paint Shop Pro. Both are right around $100, but if you are a teacher you can get PSP for around $60 on any educational software website. You'll have to scan your teacher ID to get that, just FYI.

I use PSP because of the educator discount. I love the tubes you can use!

Thanks so much for all your information.
Richt - I like my kodak software better than the HP software I have but it is limited. It has slowed things down on occasion now that you mention it.

Thanks again - I knew I could count on you guys!

Jasc Paint Shop Pro is great to do all the things you mentioned. It's very easy to use and as Brook mentioned, there are a lot of tutorials.

Default Free Photo Software

One of the best free programs is Picasa, a photo editior and organizer. You can also open a free Picasa Web Album account (over 1 gig of online storage for photos and video) and upload images directly to your albums through the program (there are two other ways to upload images if you're away from your computer). Both are offered by Google.

www.picasa.com

Photofiltre is also a good image editing program; there is both a free and inexpensively priced version.

GIMP is a free program as full featured and sophisticated program as Photoshop. Some find it difficult to install so tech geeks will be less intimidated by it.

I have to agree with this I've used jasc psp for years with no problems and just got photoshop and I couldn't be more lost with that program. It seems they have similar features but photoshop is so difficult.
