Default is the Diet Dangerous?

Hi!
Ive done the Atkins Diet when i was younger (now 33) and i must say i think it is the only Diet who brings results. However in the Age of 20 i got Rheumatism and Athritis, it is said that the diet can cause this.
I dont know if it is so, but i am overweight like about 20 kilos and I would like to ask :

Is it bad for me to do the Diet because of the athritis problem, is the Atkins Diet dangerous afterward?

I do now 14 days a kind of low carb diet, not so strict, i mean i include more salads and some apples, and I lost so far 3 kilos, and i excersize but summer is comming and i really wanna get rid of my fat once forever, and i am Strong to handle it.. i could even stop eating for a month, I have so much anger that i am and was overweight for my whole life.

please give me advice if i get big risks with this diet or if that is just a bunch of people (other Scientists) who are jealous of Mr Atkins and speak so negative about this diet.

Thank You !

im sure the diet is perfectly safe other scientists always do crap like that saying the diet is bad for some retarded reason

the Atkins diet cures many diseases im positive the diet will help you

but anyways for people with athritis problems you should avoid these foods

nightshades, eggplant, potatoes, gluten, corn, soy, diary, aspartame

TY for your answer.

As i said allready i did this diet many years ago in my puberty. I searched the House and found the Book, though in a bad condition. I allready ordered a new book. While reading, this time ina more mature age, I must say im very enthusiastic about this diet. I think It is the only affective diet and the purpose is, no hunger, and fast results which give a huge motivation. I allready lost lot of weight in the first 10 days though I wasnt going so much after the plan. Today i bought Vitamins C and B which i will take 1000mg every day. And peeing sticks to do the urine Tests, But I think i will do intoition 1 week instead of two and then will include more salads and maybe some green aples who are fat burners aswell

It is obvious that in the society we live we are poisoned of the carbonhydrates, and that together with the working stress causes all this bad difunctioning in our organism.

Im positive that losing the weight and keeping low carb for the rest of my life will defenetly change a lot in my life.

I suffer also from Phobias, during the diet I had again a Panic attack, i didnt have it for long time, i think it must be caused of the low surar amount in the blood. I hope this will get fixed soon.

good luck to everyone from us.

Jason

I have arthritis in my hands and feet - since I started Atkins my joints have stopped hurting because I'm not putting chemically concocted food into my body. I don't drink or eat anything with aspartame in it, 95% of the time I eat at home so I know exactly what is in each mouthful.

You say you have panic attacks when on the diet -- I have just the opposite - I haven't had a single panic attack since I've been on plan and I'm a Type 2 diabetic so I HAVE to keep my sugar levels low. There are meds you can get for panic - I was on them for awhile but have learned how to function without them and have been able to keep what triggered them under control.

The food I now eat is wholesome it has little to no preservatives, chemicals or other crap. Unlike Nutri-system and Jenny Craig my meals don't come out of a box with plastic wrap on top. I don't have to count points or calories like on Weight Watchers. I eat food that tastes good and is my choice.

You say you have "so much anger that i am and was overweight for my whole life" - then use that anger to your advantage - get on plan the right way (not your way) according to the 2002 DANDR book, start an exercise plan immediately, drink AT LEAST 64 ounces of pure water a day and take supplements. The plan won't work if you don't follow it so your success is up to you. There are too many people who have success stories on this site for this to be a dangerous way of eating....I wouldn't put my health at risk if it were. If you really thought it was dangerous why would you be considering it?

Is this diet dangerous - not by a long shot.

imagood1 TY for your detailed answer! I have ordered the book, but dont have it yet in my hands, I do the diet as i remember it from the past, though i eat also cucumber and a bit garlic in my salad.. i dont know if its allowed in the first 2 weeks, but i dont think those stuff will extend the 40gr carbs a day.
I think the Panic attacks where there because suddenly the body didnt get candy, and alcohol.. and its a transition... i believe too that the diet in long run will defenetly help it... I have generaly become a very scary person.. unsecure of lot of stuff, so it was really good to hear from you people. to go on with the diet and not to be scared... and i do so.

I wouldnt concider my self fat, im just overweight about 15KG, and that 90% of my life. I do bad to my heart, to my joints and to my psychology, all this have to stop once foreve.. im 33 and i was thinking that i allready lost many years of my life beeing happy...

I do sports, I do walking about 5km every second day, and yesterday sinve i lost 4Kg i started windsurfing again... but my knees allready complaining.. the weight must off!

no aspartame? I am an absolutely Coke victim, and addict, like many people on this planet. Money rules the world ! Coke is so dangerous for health as smoking, imagine all that sugar in a real coke.. this is crazy..
however once a while i join a can of diet coke, i try not to over do it, like 2,max 3 cans in a week, and try to avoid it permanently.

In an older book as i said i stil have from Dr. Atkins, there is a paragraph which he claims that the power of all that companies like coke etc, and because of the Market and the sugar industrie it did not come to light, the truth about the alergies carbs and sugar etc causes to the people.

My advantage however is that i never was a guy for candy, i mean im not into it so much.. ok once a while a chocolate or so but not much, I got fat mostly because of , BREAD,SPAGHETTTI,PIZZA,POTATOES and of course.... BEER
I want to eat thosre things again defenetly because they are tasty, but i dont know yet how.. i mean when im thin, i could eat one day fried potatoes and a pizza and after it the next 3 days a mini diet again.. I dont know.. first of all i will lose the 15 Kilos I ASSURE YOU ALL OF THAT !

Thank you very much for listening!

Jason

Those foods that you consider so tasty now might not be tasty anymore especially if your successful and you lose those 15 kilos. If I were you I would never want to eat the foods that made me fat in the first place plus if you dont take this as a Way Of Life then you are going to go right back where you were in the first place or worse!

There are substitutes for the foods you mentioned...read around, find them and try them out and that way you wont miss the food that you think you cant live without.

i think your taste buds are the last thing to change on this diet but i think about 8 months into the diet your taste buds will start too change and with in a year or two you will no longer want pizza , spagetti etc

this is one of the things that make the diet so easy to go on for life but you have to exp it for yourself cause theres no way you could know what it feels like to have your taste buds change and no longer want pizza or spagetti

also make sure you avoid omega-6 polyunsaturated vegetable oils found in things like margin cause they are part responsible for heart disease so eat butter instead

remmber to get lots of Omega-3

and remmber to follow the Atkins diet 100% your food % should be around

65% Fat 30% protein 5% carbs

20 net carbs at the start and eat lots of fat so it gets your metabolism to change from a glucose burning one to a fat burning one

and drink extra extra water during weight loss

and just read lots of stuff on these forums for more info

Hi, Jason

I have put together some information to help those who are starting/re-starting the Atkins WOE (way of eating). Check this out: http://www.atkinsdietbulletinboard.c...-new-read.html (If you are NEW, READ THIS!) I've included some tips, and a lot of great links to help you navigate the board. Among them are the Rules of Induction and the Acceptable Foods List. This will help you while you are waiting for your book to arrive.

Good Luck!

Default Re: is the Diet Dangerous?

rheumatoid arthritis is an autoimmune disease and i seriously doubt eating less sugar gives you autoimmune diseases. the only serious issues you will experience on atkins are as follows.
a couple weeks of whining because you're craving sugar
a massive drop in your weight
a massive raise in confidence
less illness
better sleep
stronger skin, hair, and nails
no more carb comas
replacing that anger with pride

this is of course, if you do it right. no frankenfoods, no cheating and bingeing, no over eating, drink your water every day, work out, no 'all meat' days, avoiding processed meat and cheese, etc etc etc.
