Hi tracyc
When you have your appointment with the dietician, I would suggest that you take a sample menu of what you are eating, and you'll need to tell her/him that you are eating low-carb.
How long have you been doing Atkins? since last January? Do you have the latest book? You can get it at Chapters online. My son was obese when he started in April and is down about 30 lbs. I think switching his Coke to Diet Coke helped a lot. (I wish he'd ditch it, period!)

I hope to see more of your posts tracyc, keep us up to date and let us know how you're doing and how/what the dietitian said ok?

Chin up girly

Hi Tracy,
A lady at my husband's work had gastric bypass and she lost weight so quickly. I looked into it but decided that surgery wasn't right for me. I did recently read a blog from someone who had the surgery 2 years ago. She lost 111 pounds by the 6 month mark. I will hit 6 months on Atkins on the 25th of this month. I've lost 94 lbs so far and hope to be at the 100 lb mark by my 6 month mark. And I didn't have to spend any time away from work or family due to a surgical procedure.

One reason my results might be a little misleading is that I started with 200 lbs to lose and the girl in the blog only had 140 to lose. But I still think that Atkins is the better way since I am learning to make food choices now that will lead me into maintenance where I will stay at or close to my ideal weight for life. At least that's the plan.

I hope you stick with Atkins long enough to see what it can do for you. Good luck!

i am sticking to atkins..im so excited over the foods that i get to eat.. in moderation of course. i found out that i will need to meet a psychologist as well. and if a person isnt ready for the changes of lifestyle, they will not do the surgery.
i had my first accomplishment over real temptation today...i went to the grocery store, and i was circling..reading my labels thank you very much lol, and just trying to find what to cook because i wasnt feeling well. i kept finding myself back in the chip isle. im craving salt right now, probably due to tom coming soon. but i ended up leaving the store with noting that i am not allowed to eat on induction

That's the way to do it Tracy!

Keep this in mind for your next shopping trip (after you feel better ) Push your cart around the outside aisles first, that's where all the fresh vegies, meat, dairy, cheese and eggs will be. The inside aisles are the ones that trap us because they are full of sugars, processed foods, well, a lot of junk.

thanks for the tip..i stuck to that today for the most part, but the stores are getting wise to that...so the bakery section is right on the wall and area after the fruits and veggies...and next to the seafood... plus i cant have fruit during induction..plus i had to go up the centre isles to get certain things like tomato paste and other stuff to make low carb bbq sauce...i must have walked up that chip isle 6 times....and then, i figured...bonus..the temptation made me get extra exercise in!!! lol

Default Re: gastric bypass

Tracy, here is my two cents worth.

I would always rather try everything before subjecting myself to a major surgery and all the risks involved.

I know you say you know you have to eat healthy after the surgery, but the bypass makes people think that sticking to a healthy diet will be easy and it isn't any easier than doing Atkins or WW or any other healthy way of eating. What makes it easier to lose is that you feel so ill and sick if you do overeat that you try harder not to do so. And if that's the case, then why not really commit to eat healthy and lose without cutting yourself open.

If you truly commit to Atkins and know that your life depends on getting to a healthy weight, which it does really, then you will lose. But you have to decide to do the work, go by the book, and make this your number one priority for awhile--ahead of your mom's feelings if you turn down her best dessert; ahead of plans out with friends at a place with no good choices; ahead of any pie or fries or pasta that comes along and calls your name. You have to believe you are important enough to make this work and stick to it. I guarantee that if you give this 6 months with NO CHEATS and going by the book, you will be amazed at how much better you feel and look.
