Default Relationship between weather and BP?

I was wondering if anyone knew of any study relating weather to BP.

My reason----I have hypertension, monitor my BP 2-4x daily, and as the weather has turned warmer my BP has dropped and dropped and dropped.

Last year through the spring, and summer by BP dropped so wonderfully that my DR took me off all my hypertension medication. I was losing weight during this time period and figured that low-carbing, exercise, and weight lost was having the desired affect.

The BP continued to stay very nice and low through the fall. Then the cold weather hit. We keep our home cold through the winter, typically our house temperature is in the low 60's during the day, and even cooler at night, and my BP went very high. Actually it went so high that Dr put me back on my medication, doubled the dose and added in a second medication. He also ran tons of tests to determine if something had suddenly gone wrong. We finally brought it down. The test results were great, my HDL's, LDL's, Trig were wonderful too.

Through all this I have stayed low-carb, maintained my weight, and kept my exercise level the same--quite active.

This week the HOT weather has hit DE. I'm talking about our temperatures suddenly moving from the mid-50's to the high 80's and into the 90's. And my BP is dropping to new lows. We haven't used the AC either so tonight when I took my BP and saw the numbers, the Research Engineer in me started thinking, and speculating, and wondering.

Yes, I'm well hydrated too.

So, could there be a relationship between BP and weather?

hey remember me we graduated boot camp together.......

ensive....... this is just a thought but could it have anything to do with you being warmer in the summer and your blood being thinner which takes less effort for the heart to pump the thinner blood..... I always heard a persons blood gets thinner the warmer they are and thicker the colder they are...... I never looked it up or anything....

':wave'Hey Karen, ':wave'

':wave'How ya doing? So good to see ya again! ':wave' Of course I remember you.

I did some google searching last night and sure enough there's been a connection made with rats. ':laughing' There's such a thing as cold-induced-hypertension!

http://hyper.ahajournals.org/cgi/con...ract/31/6/1317

A 3- to 4-week exposure of rats to a cold environment (5 +/- 2 degrees C) induces hypertension, including elevation of systolic, diastolic, and mean blood pressures and cardiac (left ventricular) hypertrophy.

Guess we need to move someplace really warm throughout the year--I really do enjoy being cool in the winter. What's a person to do???

Stay in touch---pm me if you'd like.

I'm headed out for my run.
Carole

PS--The articles speak about angiotensin. There's only 2 HB meds that we've found to help my BP; ARB's--angiotensin receptor blockers and Calcium Blockers---which also dililate the blood vessels. I'm not a medical person but just curious if that's the connection to my Hypertension.
