Default BP Pre & On Atkins

Evening all

Just curious to see if any of you have had your blood pressure monitored pre and on low carb.

Two weeks ago before I begun low carb my blood pressure was high; Just redone it after 13 days and I’m sitting normal now. I wondered if this was to do with the low carb WOE?

All but a minor blip while on holiday which I found very easy to sort out (in the past I would use a slip to go on a high carb weeks on end binge)I have found following the Atkins plan very pleasant. This addition of blood pressure being lowered to an acceptable level had reinforced my belief in Low carb.

My BP according to my blood donor card pre-Atkins was averaging 135/95, and I was borderline concerned about it or changing diet (sodium etc.). My blood pressure now is 95/60, so I definitely agree with you -- lower bp is certainly possible and perhaps related to Low Carbing.

Atkins way of eating can help lower blood pressure 4 ways. first you have to exercise and that losers blood pressure some. second the higher protein levels of Atkins 30% vs 10% for the USDA plan has a natural diuretic effect which lowers blood pressure and thrid when our blood sugar is elevated our blood pressure goes up too. stabilizing our blood sugar level eating Atkins helps keep that issue at bay too.

And lastly losing weight helps lower blood pressure too cause when you are over weight even just 25 poounds you got 5,000 extra miles of blood vessels to pump blood through and it takes more pressure to get it moving
