Default OMG!!!! My Cholesteral is 252!!!!!! What am I doing wrong?

I am totally flabbergasted!! I went and gave blood last week and just got my number back. I am so very scared!

I have been with Atkins religiously. I realize I now need to go to the doctor, but what on earth would make it go up????

How long have you been doing Atkins? Dr. A said that it can take as long as 6 months for your cholesterol to stabilize, and then it'll go back down. Also, did you have it done before you started? It *could* actually be down. Mine was over 300 when I started.

I've been on Atkins since May 2004. I had it checked before, but I don't remember what the number was. I'll call my doctor on Monday. Either way, I need to know what's going on.

first how long had it been since your last meal? cholesterol testing at the docs is a fasting test and the blood donor one is only as good as the time from your last meal. If you ate Atkins before donating your chlesterol would be up then as wopuld any person having say a burger before they donated.

THAT I didn't know. I had breakfast less than two hours before I gave blood. That makes me feel a bit better. I will still have it checked again to be safe.

Thanks, TooBig. :yes

What were your individual numbers?

Total cholesterol number means nothing. Its the breakdown of HDL/LDL/TRIGS that matters most.

Fiind out your individual numbers and then post them here.

Take a nice deep breath and do as 2big saids. If you cholesterol is high, as mine has been, you can pull your sat fats down to below 20 % and see if that doesn't help. Are you exercising.

My cholesterol has never been too high. But it did improve somewhat on Atkins and go even better when I went off - the best it has ever been.

Kimber – Also, are you exercising? Consistent exercise can really and truly lower your cholesterol levels.
