Default Red Wine and Hypertension

When I commited to this life change I stopped drinking my glass of red wine in the evening. I want to burn fat not alcohol for energy.
A strange thing has happened. My blood pressure that was always 120/70 has raised up to 150/100. My doctor asked if there is anything I have done different. I told him about Atkins. He said the diet should not be a factor. Then I mentioned giving up my red wine and AHA! Apparently red wine in post-menopausal women is beneficial for keeping your blood pressure down!! Has anyone else ever heard of this?I looked it up online and there are some studies to support this. Who knew?

Hi Razzle,
Try taking Resveratrol. It's made from the grape skin. It's extremely heart healthy and lowers blood pressure. Does all the wine does minus the alcohol. The alcohol isn't what's effective. Also grapeseed extract. I believe you'll find that it will benifit you with you blood pressure. It's also benificial for us post-menopausal woman. Reducing hot flashes and promoting estrogen levels.Liquid magnesium capsuls are benificial to your heart aswell.
Personally I feel that alcohol (of any type) is unhealthy. It damages our organs.
Do a search on resveratrol and you'll understand how benificial it is to all of us.
Here's something you may want to take in place of that glass of wine.

Sincerely, Sherri

Life is beautiful but some of us tend to forget this in the course. Well some of the pictures I saw here of the other members were inspirational to me indeed. Maybe Atkins is the right choice for me to shred my pounds and after reading this section I am also delighted there are alternatives and reasons for me to quit my alcohol habits. I do hope when I feel down members here would lend their support to motivate me back on track. My journey towards a new life has just begun would not like to abandon this journey mid way.

Nice and interesting thread... particularly for someone who finds giving up my evening glass of red almost impossible (though I did, completely, during all the weight loss phases!).
Tks Razzle.
Sherri... you always have very good and useful advice!

Hey danial1234, "Beleive in yourself and youre going to get everything you want" That is a quote from my man Billy Blanks on his first produced advanced Taebo video. Years later i can still hear his voice in my head saying those exact words and it helps me push harder. Do you have a self cheerleading mantra in your head that can help combat the negative thoughts we think? It really helps!
You will find lots of people here to cheer you on and help you over those hurdles. You came to the right place.
Sally----Look at your after picture..you are a skinny min!

Thanks for the reminder regarding the "Resveratrol" product. I have had that on my list to purchase once my current credit card debt was paid off & today I ordered thanks to your link.

I normally don't buy into the fad "health" products but the 60 minutes segment on their website was one that I had watched & believed in. PLUS, I had been drinking two glasses of red wine daily for a couple of years & felt the urge to drink more so this product will help me avoid that alcohol addiction.

My cardiologist also suggested I stop drinking alcohol as it was potentially inflaming a heart infection that I had developed which took 3 years to overcome (wash your hands multiple times daily! my infection began with the flu & the ER doc said it "wasn't uncommon." Chronic Pericarditis.
