Default Oligopeptide as a Supplement?

Anyone use Oligopeptide as a supplement to lower their BP?
Here's an article about it --

Here's a product I found:

this stuff is a manipulated made to look like the stuff in the fish but isn't it because we break down the stuf is the fish in our intestines so it is in effect a manmade compound sold as a supplement that works very much like a Drug. before any one experiments with something like this they need to dicuss this with their doctors. ACE inhibitors work on one cause of high blood pressure if your high blood pressure has another cause you will not be helped.

One incident of high blood pressure at a docs ofice doesn't mean you have high blood pressure again. I hope your doc has you monitoring your blood pressure over the course of the day and recording ther resulsts do he can see if in fact hypertension has returned.

Thanks for the feedback on this stuff 2big. A friend who sells Nutrilite suggested it, but I'm not one to use *stuff* just on a whim. I became concerned when I started reading about it acting like an ACE inhibitor. My Dr put me on an ACE once, took one dosage, what she even called a baby dose, and it set my BP down way too low, and way too fast. Caused the Dr to order all sorts of tests on my kidneys too.

BTW, I do have hypertension, check my BP 3 or 4x daily with my own machine. Yes, its been checked at the Drs to see how it compares. I've had hypertension since 2000 --- yucky genetics for me. Right now I'm on an ARB and I just started a calcium blocker.

so how is your blood pressure doing now that you have a few more weeks of eating Atkins under your belt? DId you know high blood sugars can cause high blood pressure and that is just one of the ways eating Atkins can help lower blood pressure?

Thanks for the follow-up 2-Big. I've been following Atkins for 16 months now -----When I began Atkins I did see my BP drop, and drop and drop, and the Doc and I weaned me off all medication. THe BP's were wonderfully low. That was in August and everything, BP was wonderfully low all through the fall, and Dec, and THEN.

And then in January the BP started going up and up and up. We have no idea why---alll my blood work is normal, my cholestrol, HDL, LDL, Trig, are fabulous. I'm following Atkins, put myself through Boot Camp, and am on OWL Rung 1 now and will stay there till May 1. I'm working through it again, slowly this time.

I'm now on 2x the ARB dose I was on prior to starting Atkins, and am also on a calcium blocker. I take my BP 4 - 5x a day and it runs between 138/88 to 160/105 ---not good at all. Quite frustrated by all this.

And yes, normal blood sugars, and stable insulin levels help to stablize blood pressure. I just wish I knew why mine went out of control---and I want to get them back in control.

Thanks for askin!

well I have one last question for you. DId you change from induction to a higher carb level about the time the BP went back up? seem when carbs are absorbed Na+ ions are too and if you upped your carbs you could unintintionally increased the amount of Sodium you were absorbing too.

No, didn't up my carbs -- through the end of Jan I was at 20 - 30 carbs/day. Then I went through boot camp in Feb and my carb level was in the 10-15/day level. I've stayed on OWL level 1 since then with carbs in the 20-30 range. I do avoid salt products like pickles although I haven't found a connection for me.

Question for you -- should a HT person like me avoid the K-salt replacement products? Some well meaning friends have passed articles to me about folks lowering their BP by eating bananas, and thus increasing thier K levels. I'm not willing to eat bananas but wondering if K-salt replacement would or should be something I should explore.

Thanks so much!

Carole

talk with your Doc about it as the amount of Potassium actualy in them is staggaring and too much potassium can mess up your heart.
